My mother and Peta's sister, Krystal, have reminded me that I haven't posted this on LJ yet. Peta and I are engaged! This was (poorly) posted on Facebook, and emailed to friends and close family. Extended family have yet to be properly notified, since this is my first real chance to rest in a while.
Is there a wedding date set yet? Almost. We had hoped for a summer wedding, but it looks like we'll have to push things forward a bit.
We got up way too early today to meet with an immigration lawyer. We've been trying for ages to figure out where and how to apply for Peta to immigrate, and no two sources gave the same information. The lawyer we saw was the one who sorted out my dad's citizenship papers when DND accidentally buggered up his status years ago (another story).
The conversation boiled down to: "There are two ways to apply. This one is better. This is how long it takes. This is what you need. These are the forms. Here's how you fill them out. This is exactly what you need to do. Send stuff to me and I'll make sure everything's in order and keep it moving properly. Get married as soon as possible."
That's the short version. This guy was good! Everything was in plain English, easy to understand, and no B.S. We've got lots of stuff to put together, fill out, and plan for, but at least we've got a professional making sure it's all legit and in order before it goes.
As for the ASAP, he was looking at us being married and holding all the documentation by December. We'd actually like family and friends to attend, and to have a ceremony that we can remember fondly, so we're aiming more February/March. This is something we need to work on a bit, so we can get Peta's family and friends here as well. Right now it's still very tentative.
