One of the great things about hanging out with new teachers is all the gross and wonderful stuff I get to learn. Such as the following. I shall make it a cut, so as not to put off anyone with a weak constitution. Seriously, though, you should have used charisma as your dump stat (geek humour).
According to the March 2007 issue of Popular Mechanics, scientists are now able to take pig stem cells and grow "lab meat": muscle tissue, without the usual animal attached. Hence, rather than rows and rows of pigs in cramped cages, we get giant sheets of body-less grey muscle on factory racks. Apparently this eliminates the need for growth hormones and antibiotics, reduces the risk of disease (no brain to get mad cow disease with), and kind of eliminates the cruelty to animals aspect... sort of. But it's creepy as all hell, and seems a lot like some sci-fi nightmare.
Oh, and one other thing. I'll let the article tell this part:
"One technical challenge: Muscle tissue that has never been flexed is a gooey mass, unlike the grained texture of meat from an animal that once lived. The solution is to stretch the tissue mechanically, growing cells on a scaffold that expands and contracts. This would allow factories to tone the flaccid flesh with a controlled workout."
And on that note, this month's Good or Bad:
Disembodied, pulsating pork
Bon appetit!
On a not-revolting topic, here's a meme.
You know you've watched too much anime/read too much manga when...
Rules are simple.
1. Post these rules in your LJ.
2. List 5 or more things that let you know you've read/watched too much anime/manga.
3. Tag 3 people.
1. Your hair appears to defy both gravity and colour palettes.
2. You no longer read left to right.
3. You no longer have trouble following the plot and dialogue of FLCL.
4. You attempt to "power up" before a bar fight.
5. You keep a supply of sparkles on hand to throw in the air whenever you pose.
I'll tag

Also, have a look at
this link my grandparents sent me. "At this speed the tires will only last 15 minutes…..but that’s ok, because the fuel runs out in 12"
