Sorry for my absence

I haven't posted in way, way, way too long.  I'll try to make up some of the lost time.

I've been busy with school for the better part of every week day.  Classes are going well, but work is piling up and hard to stay on top of.  Two assignments are due this week, which will be good to get out of the way.

After a long day of classes, I stagger home and am welcomed back with a hug from Peta, which is an excellent way to come in the door.  She's been playing a lot of WoW on my user account, as well as doing some shopping and exploring.  This week, she's going to begin volunteering at a school library while we try to work out her working visa.

Peta and I have been dating for a full year, as of Saturday, so we had a nice little anniversary with dinner out.  We also rented Cars, which was good.  I gave her the original Winnie-the-Pooh, and she gave me a lovely picture frame, and a scented candle.  We leave it unburnt on the windowsill, and the room smells like cinnamon after it's been warmed by the sun.

I've started fencing again.  It seems like everyone is either way above me, or way below, and it's difficult to get a decent fight in.  A guy from my class has joined, which is kind of fun.  Peta also comes to watch (I love fighting for an appreciative audience) and feed the UVic bunnies.  There's a inter-collegiate tournament at UBC coming up around February 10th or 17th (Chris wasn't sure which).  I'd love to go, but we'll have to see how that works out with the rest of my schedule.

We've also started attending a knitting group on Sundays.  Yes, I said knitting.  Some of the girls in my class have decided to get together to knit on Sundays, and Peta and I have started going to help her meet some new people, and get us out of the house.  I'm even learning to knit.  The middle bits, for the most part, look respectable now (that took a few tries, though), but the edges are a mangled mess.  I don't completely understand what I should be doing when I get to the end.  The whole thing is fascinating, though; I'm making one giant, organized knot.  I wonder who first tangled a string on two sticks, then decided they could make a sweater out of it?

My great aunt Freda died of cancer just last Thursday.  I called my uncle Max on Friday to see how she was doing and got the news.  There's a wake for her this weekend I'll be going to.

We're going to have a new roommate for February!  This will be an excellent way to reduce the rent.  It's some guy.  I don't know him.  I'm hoping he's A) a resonably pleasant person, and B) more willing to look after Tanya's damn dog than I am.

Now that I'm caught up, updating won't seem so daunting later.  I'll be more regular for the next while.
