Ugly Betty
I think I've seen this episode at least 7 times since it originally aired and it still makes me smile and laugh and shocks me every single time. This is Ugly Betty at it's best. Betty had left Mode to work for Sophia at NYW... then she found out that Sophia had been playing Daniel this whole time for a story. Daniel was embarrassed in public on national TV and Betty couldn't work for that bitch anymore. So now she's working at some Mexican food restaurant as "Chip Chick". I love how you wouldn't have even know she was working if they hadn't of had her pick up her chip hat. Hilda's all depressed because she needs to find a job and she doesn't know what to do. She's got no skills. Betty, even though she doesn't work for Daniel anymore, wants to make sure his apartment is nice and clean and the fridge is stocked because he's coming back from Rio. She gets a huge surprise when she goes into Daniel's apartment. It's disgusting and messy and Daniel's hiding in the closet. The scene where she finds him is so hilarious that I laugh every time. Then he acts like it's no big deal he's been there the whole time. I love though that he sent her fake postcards every other day. I think that's just so telling about their relationship. They talk about how much they've grown in just a few months... and both have. Daniel finds out that Betty quite working at NYW and he's so happy he wants to high five her. So adorkable... you forget Daniel's supposed to be some blg playboy. Betty convinces him to go back to work and he wants another high five. The next day Daniel is sporting his "cheeto" tan... "I was supposed to be in Rio for 2 weeks." "It makes you look like an oompa loompa." So true Betty, so true. They have to take the stairs because Daniel doesn't want to run into Sophia on the elevator... Betty goes down and tells Daniel to leave her behind. Meanwhile we got a scene with the mystery woman and Wilhelmina and them discussing having the information to put Bradford away for Fey's murder.
At Mode, Willie's measuring Daniel's office since when the shit hits the fan he'll be out of there for sure. She's even got an In and Out board with everyone's picture. Christina's on the fence and Amanda's out until she can prove her loyalty to Willie. I love the awkward meeting with Amanda, Marc, Willie, and Daniel. They're all pretending to be happy he's back, okay Amanda's not, and he tries to act cool, even gives Willie a hug. The best part though? He leaves his tan on the back of her outfit. ROTFL And Amanda's all "What did you bring us back from Rio?" Then Betty pops out. "Maybe we should hit it with a bat, see if candy falls out." Oh Marc, I love thee. Daniel's still depressed about Sophia so Betty has this great idea to hook him up with Giselle, the supermodel. He doesn't want to go at first but agrees and Betty sets the date up. Marc tells Amanda she needs to choose a side and she does. She calls and cancels Daniel's date with Giselle. Daniel calls Betty saying she's not there so Betty goes to save him from the paparazzi. They end up eating dinner there... well Daniel does. Then they have to ditch all the photogs... them running away was too cute. They talk about the food, Betty gives him her snails because she so didn't like them. Daniel sees a pizza joint and decides to treat her a slice. Inside Betty says how much she admires Daniel for being ready to commit... for putting himself out there and for finding that kind of love. And he tells her that she's already found it in Henry... that he looks at her like he's in love. Bonding and squishiness... I love. Karaoke time!! Betty signed them up because it's half off if you sing... but Daniel's rich. Know what they sing? "I got you babe." Sonny and Cher. And the line they sing is completley them. "They say that we don't know, that we won't until we grow. I got you babe." They're singing to each other and for the audience and complete foreshadowing here. Once they've grown together and as people they'll know. They love each other and have each other... can't live without each other... sounds like the series finale to me. Back at Mode Wilhelmina bribes Christina to turn in the info on Bradford by saying she'll give her a spot in the "10 designers to watch" show at fashion week. Hilda's found a business... she's making cupcakes. Okay... she's not. Ignacio and her neighbors are. And in the end it doesn't pay off... expenses are more than the paycheck.
Once Daniel and Betty leave the pizza joint they crash a wedding reception. A great way to get free cake... and bridesmaids. Betty threatens to say boob again if Daniel doesn't call them. They stop at the bridge and look out at NYC. It's the only way Betty's seen it and she says it's almost better than a blizzard. Daniel listens to her so intently... he really listens to her. He doesn't do that often. She says she'll come back to this spot when she can't sleep and he says to call him, he'll be there. They talk for a moment about Daniel's brother, how he died in a ski accident but doing something he loved... bonding again. Then he asks her about why she can't go after Henry. She doesn't want to compete with a model that weighs less than her shoes she replies and he tells her "You're better than any model, Betty, much better." Why are you so friggin sweet Daniel? She smiles and he looks at her the way every woman wants to be looked at by a man. There's love there... admiration and respect. When Betty gets home Hilda freaks out that she went on an all night date with Daniel. Betty says that it's okay to aim high. Hilda breaks down because she's 30 and she's got no skills... the only thing she has is Justin. This scene breaks my heart... she loves Justin so much but sometimes she wonders.... and Betty won't let her finish. Finally... the last scene... I was honestly flabbergasted when I saw this for the first time. Complete shocker. Who's the masked woman Willie's been working with this whole time? "That skiing accident did wonders for you Alex Meade." "It's Alexis, darling." One of the best final scenes... most shocking, and just really well done. I know that was just a really long recap but honestly... there aren't words for how much I love this episode. The struggle Christina is going through. All the immense Daniel/Betty bonding and Hilda... I finally felt like I was getting to really know her. The final scene though... is what helps make this episode one I'll watch over and over again along with all the DB goodness.

Brothers and Sisters
This episode was the one I'd been waiting for since Justin/Rebecca's first meeting in S1. I know... they thought they were brother and sister... but this episode addresses that. A lot of other stuff happened in this episode with Kitty/Robert and Nora/Tommy/Sarah/Saul but I rewatch this episode solely for Justin/Rebecca and the one Kevin/Justin scene. It starts out with Justin and Rebecca at her house, Justin's fixing something with her computer... ever since he found out that she might not be his sister he's been having feelings, but then she said that she was and they went away... sort of. Was he relieved or disappointed? That's what she asked him in the episode before. He was disappointed... now he can't stop thinking about her in a non sisterly way. She's all legs in the scene and practically asks him out, he says he's got a date with a hot chick, and when Holly appears he makes a mad dash and leaves. Rebecca is so confused. Then you see Justin at Kevin's office and honestly... this is one of the funniest scenes I've ever seen... EVER. Justin's trying not to think about Rebecca. Kevin asks him what's wrong and Justin's trying really hard to explain it to him without it making him sound like he's sick. Just gonna post the whole scene because there's just no way to do it justice without transcribing it.
Kevin: Are you all right?
Justin: I don't know. No, I'm not. There's something wrong with me bro'.
Kevin: Yeah, that's obvious.
Justin: Remember when we went surfing the other day, and you and Tommy accused me of hiding something about Rebecca?
Kevin: Yeah, vaguely.
Justin: There was a minute there when she wasn't sure she was our sister.
Kevin: She's not?
Justin: She is, she took a test. But... when I found that out, I was kinda into that idea that she wasn't.
Kevin: Why would you not want her to be part of the family?
Justin: I do, I just... I wasn't unhappy with the fact that she wasn't.
Kevin: What are you talking about?
Justin: How are you not getting this? Look, I know you're gay, but you have eyes, you know! She's not like...unattractive you know?
Kevin: You're attracted to our sister???
Justin: Because I thought she wasn't! That's what I'm saying!
Kevin: Oh my god, YOU ARE SICK! What... have you two-?
Justin: NO! No, of course not! Look, I swear I only thought about this when this whole paternity thing came up! And it was just like a moment, and now I'm all freaked out because what if it happens again?
Kevin: You have to stay away from her!
Justin: I know, well I'm trying to avoid her but she keeps wanting to hang out, like... Kev, I'm making up a hot chick that I'm supposedly dating so I can avoid her!
Kevin: Stop talking!
Justin: I told you! I'm the most disgusting person in the world!
Kevin: Okay, okay, let's just... talk about this rationally. It's not entirely abnormal that you could possibly have these feelings, okay? You weren't raised together, you know, you've met as adults, you clearly have boundary issues.
Justin: I know, I know.
Kevin: You just need a little time off to stop... thinking about... inbreeding.
Justin: Kev-KEVIN!
Kevin: What? I'm trying to be supportive! Why did you even tell me this?
Justin: Because you asked me, Kevin. You know what? I'm just gonna tell her, I'm gonna get it out there and make sure everything is gonna...
Kevin: Absolutely NOT!
Kevin: Do NOT talk to her about this. Don't talk to anyone about this. Seriously. I love you, and I get that because you thought she's not our sister you might have thought things might have worked out a little more... complicated but she IS. Okay? So you just have to put that in a box or behind you or somewhere and forget about it and never EVER speak of this again.
Justin: Look, Kev-
Kevin: Sshh.
Justin: Kevin I-
Kevin: Sshh.
Their facial expressions, especially Kevin's, throughout the whole conversation are priceless. Justin's "I am the most disgusting person in the world" cuppled with Kevin's "You are sick" just have me laughing out loud. I know incest is not a funny topic and people that participate in it are probably not in the right frame of min but I just can't help but laugh at this scene and this whole episode. After his talk with Kevin, Justin goes back to the house and Rebecca corners him there. Asking him about his date and then saying he should have called her if his date canceled. Justin doesn't know what to do... he's helpless so he agrees to go to the movies with her. They go... he doesn't want to get a combo with her... that would be too couply. She keeps grabbing his hand during scary parts and digging into the popcorn bag in his lap and he freaks out. Just runs out of the theater and she chases after him because she doesn't know what's going on. It's here... Justin admits to her that when she was doubting who her father was he sort of became attracted to her and he's sorry and he'll never act on it and he just needs space. Dave really really steps up his performance here... and Emily is so quiet and reserved but still acting the hell out of this scene. Rebecca starts to cry and runs away. Justin is left... the reality of it all sinking in. Rebecca visits him the next day and he again apologizes and then she drops the bomb. She's not related to him. William isn't her father, David is. She just didn't want to lose this family that had taken her in and loved her. She didn't want to lose him. Justin's hurt, understandably. He's so close to Rebecca and for her to lie like that to him... it breaks him up. He lashes out because that's what he does when he's hurting and compares her to her mom. Again Dave and Emily are brilliant in this scene...the emotions coming from both... especially Dave... gah they made me cry and make my heart hurt. So this episode doesn't end happily... Justin's mad at Rebecca and Rebecca is hurt... that's okay though. The next episode makes up for the sad ending this one had. This one though... I've seen it more than 10 times because of all the JR scenes and the JK one... hilarious and heartbreaking and one of the best episodes.
