His alt mode has an onboard computer (as do all police cars) with access to databases. He has fair hacking skills with Cybertronian systems. He’s not as good as Frenzy, of course, but he has some skills. He is better at locking communications to be unhackable than hacking them himself.
In addition to this (if you’ll let me) he has interrogation training (there is an ‘Interrogator Barricade’ toy: look, it’s canon!) which can get…violent and verge on torture. Because of this knowledge, he also has some basic systems ‘anatomy’ knowledge, such as pain sensors, and the like. He’s not a medic, per se, but can do field first aid/triage-after all one must be able to fix part of what one breaks, right? He has served in the capacity of a science officer and a pilot of the Nemesis, so these are also in his known skills. His job as a science officer isn’t to do science itself (that’s for other types) but to take reports and analyses by scientists and determine tactical usage.
.weapons: Barricade’s armor is twice as strong as normal Cybertronian armor (the Movie Guide p 38), and it fits his combat style-fast and hard. He has slashing talons, as well as a spoke weapon (which wow, he really hates it when you call it a yo-yo!) in his left wrist tire. This is primarily a close-in weapon-his preferred fighting style. It can deploy like a mace, but even then the range is limited. In vehicle mode, he can launch small drill-like missiles. (It’s in the tfwiki in a footnote and it’s coooooool!) They’re most likely not that effective, but it does give him a pursuit weapon.
.personality: Barricade respects authority, only if it’s proven itself to him. Sometimes this proof must be physical. He believes in the Decepticon cause, and that Megatron is the way to that ultimate success. Therefore, he’ll go out of his way to make himself indispensable to Megatron. He will follow others, in Megatron’s place, as long as they are in line with serving the Decepticon cause or Megatron’s aims.
As a leader himself, should it ever happen, he is extremely hard on those under him. He is just as hard on himself, of course, and views it as the right way of bringing out performance in his team.
On a team, he will question the leader’s decisions, but will obey. He will not, it is important to note, stoop to sabotage, because however much he may dislike Mech X, he will not let it get in the way of furthering Decepticon victory. That is the extent of his honor.
He assumes everyone is playing an angle, and he plays one too. He will cooperate, but only a foolish mech would trust him not to turn on him should circumstances change. He can be very charming, if it suits his purposes.
Despite his small size, he will not hesitate to challenge any mech he disagrees with. He’s been beaten down before, and will not back down simply out of an attempt to avoid that. He has developed a fairly high pain threshold because of this.
He is extremely hard on himself-he’s toughened himself up this way-and takes loss and mistakes personally. He figures every misstep a mistake, something he could have done more. Something he didn’t quite see. He has a tendency to overanalyze the past, looking for where things went wrong, what, specifically, he did wrong.
(A note about Frenzy: I’ve searched canon ruthlessly (I can provide a link if you'd like) and there is no mention of any symbiont-style bond between Frenzy and Barricade. I’d kind of like to stick with canon for this, despite the delicious, delicious angst that a missing-symbiont would give Barricade. Frenzy and he were ‘partners’ for a long time, and he will miss Frenzy that way-Frenzy was the closest thing to a friend and the closest to trust he’s ever come.)
.roleplay sample: Barricade seethed. Another mission with the unmistakable imprint of Starscream written all over it. Would he never get done punishing Barricade? Would he never stop blaming Barricade for the mission to Earth?
Right. Starscream might stop, eventually: Barricade wouldn’t. Which is why he took these missions, he knew. A way of punishing himself and proving Starscream wrong, both at once. And, of course, more than enough punishment for the enemy. No sense leaving them out of this circle of blame. right?
He rolled cautiously up the canal, all sensors alert, cursing the ‘luck’ that had gotten this assignment. Call this one Operation Rolling Target: draw out the enemy fire by looking unprotected, alone. A natural choice, in a way, that he’d be the one to roll off alone. Natural, though, didn’t make it sit any better.
Also natural: unlikely that anyone on his side would risk much to haul his aft out of danger. He’d counted on his own rank and position to keep him safe, trying to make himself too valuable to lose. Not, apparently, too valuable to risk. And to be honest, he wouldn’t be that surprised if there was some ‘accidental’ friendly fire incident involving him.
Yeah? No problem. He’d return the favor if it came to that.
His tires crunched on rusted bits of metal, shards of plasglass, as he advanced up the canal. Turn to the right up ahead. Perfect spot for an ambush. He steeled himself, one part ready to get it over with, the other eager to get into the fray. Decepticons didn’t have much in the way of resources: but pain and misery? They had plenty.
