James and I drove down to Portland to see Katarine yesterday. We stayed for about an hour having a wonderful chat with Katarine's host mother Edie. Edie is a nurse in the Pediatric ICU, and she said that most kids after this surgery were still in the ICU on ventilators. Katarine was up and about and eating and laughing and smiling. After a while, she got down on the floor and played with stuffed animals.
At this point, it looks like she's going to make it through. I'm so happy.
