I figure it's been a while and perhaps I should show some sign of life.
I'm now going at full speed with ... everything.
School: In the middle of midterms. Had my first last week (I kicked its ass!), and my next this wednesday, followed by a couple papers, and a couple more midterms.
This year is infinantly better than the last. I am taking classes that I am really interested in, with professors that I mostly enjoy. The work load consists mostly of a couple hundred pages of reading every week, which can be mind-numbing, and intense, but not particularly DIFFICULT to get through. Just takes me a long time, because I'm a slow reader.
I've taken on two somewhat part-time jobs this semester. I have two, 2-hour shifts at the McGill Sports Medicine Clinic. I am also training (and have almost completed my traning) as a McGill Campus Tour Guide. The clinic is cool, but unfortunately, due to differences in the medical system, I'm not working as a tech - and don't have a lot of patient interaction. I'm doing mostly admin stuff (filing charts, filing papers, faxing forms, entering data into the comp, checking-in and scheduling patients, oh - and checking/folding the towels). The last one is ironically the one I *kind of* prefer the most, because I'm IN the clinic and I can keep half an eye on the therapists/patients. Maybe in a few more weeks when I become even more comfortable in my eliment, I will venture to ask the therapists more questions.
Touring is cool, I get to meet prospectives :) And I'm learning quirky/interesting/funny anecdotes about the school. :)
Because I'm usually pretty busy between classes (though I have an admittedly amazing schedule this term), the school work load, as well as the job-load, I haven't had much chance to go out and be social. Which is somewhat frustrating, but not particularly troubling. I've made some new friends, completely lost others, and have generally been feeling pretty good about things. The last few weeks (including this one) have been Jewish holidays, and despite my ... continuing scepticism of my religion and religious beliefs, I've actively participated in these celebrations. Indeed, the last few weeks have been a bit overwhelming in the religion department.
However, this involvement has introduced me to quite a few (mostly observant but nonetheless cool) people. Including a new boy. His name is Joel and he's on exchange at McGill for the semester, from Sydney, Australia. He's got a beautiful voice and I had the pleasure of hearing him the last few weekends leading services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
Anyway... the clock never seems to stop when I start writing ... and thus it has become late, and I tired. I'm going to call it a night - as tomorrow is another long day - hopefully more productive than this one... my exams wont pass themselves, and failing has never been an option.
Hope to speak to some of you soon...
