saw it this evening in Dupont. It was very thought provoking. superficially its about relationships. but on a deeper level its kind of a social commentary.
a striking quote was "Everywhere else theres a separation of 6 degrees. Here its 2" and yet no matter where we are (it takes place in NYC) those degrees dont matter because we're all strangers. even within a circle of friends our relationships are often very shallow.
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose / By any other word would smell as sweet”
Shakespeare is important to the play, however Romeo and Juliet are not. What is often mentioned though is the concept of names. It links people together and certainly removes a layer of the unfamiliar. a supporting actor gets hurt and the photographer doesn't know his name and when she tries to track him down, has trouble because of this problem. he had even commented earlier on the fact that she didnt bother to ask him, while he already knew hers. again - shallow and distant though all very close...
its definitely not a comedy and does drag at bits but from a psychological point of view, intriguing and captivating.
