GANDZASAR CHUCH IS 770 YEARS OLD
This year marks 770 years of the famous church of St. Hovhannes Gandzasar Mkrtich. A governmental commission was set up by the order of the NKR Prime Minister Ara Harutyunyan and the Archbishop Pargev to prepare the celebrations.
The program provides a number of cultural and educational activities - concerts, exhibitions, conference with the participation of scientists from Armenia, Artsakh and the Diaspora, a film, website creation, and so on. On July 11, in connection with Vardavar holiday, in Gandzasar Church a solemn liturgy will be served, according to Holy Etchmiadzin.
Church of St. Hovhannes Mkrtich (John the Baptist) was erected in 1216-1238 years by Prince Khachen Hasan Jalal Dolan. The opening and consecration of the church took place in 1240 on the day of Vardavar.
