Eric and I finally visit my parents again next weekend. We'll leave Thursday and return Sunday. It'll be a short visit and our first since Christmas. It'll be nice to get out of C-U.
Mom found a breadmaker for $4 at a rummage, so we'll be bringing that home. We'll also haul some stepping stones from their yard and maybe some DVD/CD racks we might build while there.
Our drive will be a bit different, at least on the way up. We plan to take highways instead of freeways so we stay near the peak of fuel efficiency (50-55mph). With gas in excess of $4/gallon, we need to save any way we can. We're guessing it'll add about 5mpg and save us around $10--have to check mileage on the way up to see. It'll also take and extra hour or hour and a half (according to Google maps).
There are a bunch of things I want to do while we're there: build CD/DVD racks, visit Gramma Fitzgerald, go to Appleton to pick up a cello, and still have some time left to spend with my parents. I'd like to visit my friend Amy in Madison, too, but I don't think we'll have time. I'd also like to take Eric to one or two of the local or regional parks. Due to higher gas prices, I think we may stick to the local parks. My original idea was to visit Kohler-Andrae State Park, but that'd mean a drive to Sheboygan from Appleton with a cello sitting in the car--not good for the cello and an extra bunch of miles in gas.
One of our goals on this trip is to compare my favorite local custard place, Pop's Custard, to Eric's favorite here, Jarling's. We recently visited Jarling's, so next weekend we'll give Pop's a try. I'll let you know how that turns out.
