When I first saw the link I could tell it was a hoax right away. When cookie monster Fio sent me the link, the spelling & grammar was suprisingly accurate (which was my first que), and usually writing a code that sends two messages in one script is way too difficult for a no-brained nerd so... you'll usually get it all combined into something like "Hey, what's up? You have to check out this link; it's really the best thing that ever happened! www.idiotsclickonly.com". The second most prevailing order of common sense is, why just click it and download an application from the web on a site you don't know? Use the noggin here. Wouldn't you atleast respond to the person instant messaging you and say, "Hey what does this link go to?" or "Hey, where'd you get this from?" etc. When the person responds and says "What message?" or "I didn't send that... can't you wait 10 seconds for a reply? Whenever anyone sends you a link, don't click on it. Just because in this case there is a download from the site, some links go to sites that download actual viruses embedded in the temporary internet files or cookies within. This 'pass it on' deal isn't a virus! It's a hoax and it's very annoying and hard to get rid of, if you are not some-what decent at trouble-shooting. Ofcourse if it's not a virus, a virus scanner or scandisk won't detect it. Everyone's getting frantic over a stupid program that creates a folder in your computer to pass on a friggen link. The response "GOD! YOU SAVED MY NEW LAPTOP!" and "DEAR LORD YOU SAVED MY SIRORITY!!!" lol... if you were infected with a minor virus, you'd know it. Be leary of ANYTHING suspicious. A link from a friend in the first instant message should arouse some suspicion... right?
To remove this 'bug', go to a search engine and in the field for text to search, type the following : Search and destroy... or go to this site and download the hijacker elimination program: www.safer-networking.org/
The program that one would be exposed to if they downloaded the file from the link is known as a hijacker. The programmer creates a very cheap method to 'jump' abord the users computer and then move about cyber-space from computer to computer like a bandit. The one flaw with this is that it's in reality only a semi-bandit because the victim still must use the link as a medium. Anymore questions on this matter, you can instant message greenlifeguardx.
