Yay, power!

Well, today's been a long and very intresting day. Start out wanting to kill everything and end it celebrating and being just generally happy.

I think the wanting to kill everything in sight ended once someone finally got home.. alright. Subsided is a better way of putting it. Once the power died, all my rage subsided into a state of "huh?!" as my fan and speakers died and my laptop power monitor switched over to battery power. Well, shit. No power. What am I going to do now? Liz was the only other person home at the time and too was a bit confused as to why the power was off. So, lacking the knowledge of why we lacked power and knowing we didn't have much in the way of food around here we set off towards No Frills hoping that they might still be open, silly move seeing that's probably what everyone else would probably do in a power outage. On one hand, they were closed. On the other, it was funny seeing the employees of No Frills standing out front wondering what they should do. We kept moving and went across the street to the Faromart after playing Frogger with the cars. This place, thankfully was still open. Liz grabbed some munchies just in case this power outage should last longer, I decided against it feeling confident that my meager food supply would last me. The two employees there had to turn someone down from giving them any gas seeing the pumps didn't work. No power, no pumps. Should make enough sense to people. At least there wasn't a mass panic that I could see about running out of gas. One of the two employees apparently had been on the phone talking to someone about why the power had gone out. A hydro plant in burlington had apparently caught on fire and was causing all this havoc or at least that's what was being said. Not an overly charming thought.

With food in hand, we set upon the task of returning home... I feel like I'm writing a half-assed rpg now.

Moving on. On the way home we saw a random joe out in one of the major intersections near our house directing traffic. Brave guy. Kudos to him. People would have treated it like a really big four way stop anyways, but kudos to him anyways.

Upon return to the house, we set about making a few phone calls. Not the best thing to do during a power outage, but we wanted to know what was going on. I called home to see if they might have heard something about this on the news, apparently not. Oh well. Didn't think they would anyways. Was worth a try at any rate. Liz called back to her home and found out that most of Ontario and New York were lacking power. Alright. That's a pretty big area. We turned to the radio to try to get more info. Sadly, the only functioning radio on hand was my mini radio which isn't exactly the most capable of radios. Time to go get some D cell batteries to power one of the radios in the house. Nothing of any real note happened.. alright. Save maybe the fact that Gino's Pizza was still open and selling the last of their pizza and also had wings and fries on hand to be made. Batteries in hand, we commandered Emery's radio and found a radio station to get the news from. After a while of listening to what had happened it dawned upon me that we were probably going to be without power for at least a few more hours. If not a day or two. Oh well. It's not that big of a disaster. Look at California, they pulled out of it fine. Sorta..

Relocating outside to where it's much cooler, we sat around listening to the news until other people arrived. John first, Emery second. Stories were shared - albeit I had none since all mine were the same as Liz's. We spent a couple hours playing cards then headed over to John's place as it was getting darker. On a side note, Emery made some McGuyver style modifications to my broken flashlight. It now worked, so light wasn't really an issue any longer. We headed over to John's for candles and to cook up Emery's burgers anyways. Had a quiet sit, watched the stars, headed back. Unplugged all the electronics in the house, made a few calls and then got ready to pass out for the night. Emery was the first to notice that the power was back due to the fact that he can actually see the porch light shine in from his room. Much to my amusement, this happened a little after I shouted "Turn the power back on, damnit!" and shook my fist in idle fury.

And we come to now. Everything is back to normal. Sheesh. Today's been really kinda intresting... I think it's time to go play some FF2..
