www.votesmart.org

Go there. Now. This site has everything you could possibly need to make an informed decision about who you feel represents your best interests. They even have the past voting records of all the candidates. If you're not registered to vote, it even has a bunch of handy dandy resources to get yourself registered and make your voice heard. Want a contact address for a candidate's district office? They got it. Want an email address for a candidate's Key Staff member? They got that too. They even have links to where you can buy all manner of campaign bumper stickers and T shirts. They have descriptions of all legislation a candidate has voted on and it's written in English. Regular person, plain English. Not to be confused with the Legalise you'd be reading if you just searched for a copy of it online. If you surf around votesmart.org and you like what they stand for and what they represent, they even have ways for you to get involved. The way I've chosen is to shamelessly plug this on my blog.

But Lynne why exactly are you prattling on about this and wasting valuable space on my friends page?

I'm glad you asked, voice in my head that represents my ever-curious friends and random Internet passers by. The reason I'm plugging this website is simple: We have a choice. When you walk into that booth at your local polling place on election day you have a choice and not just between a list of candidates or between one political party and another. You have a choice to be presented with a set of facts (eg a voting record) and make a decision on who you feel represents you based on pure, unmediabiased, spin-free data or you can cast your vote based on what the media tells you is the truth. As someone who studied the media for four years I can tell you that journalistic integrity is by and large a thing of the past (I'm looking at you Mssrs Hannity, Combes, O'Reilly, and Limbaugh) and one not iota of news we recieve from any media outlet whatsoever is the unmitigated truth. So the short version of what I'm telling you is you can either make your own decision or you can be a sheep. You can vote their way or you can vote smart. I choose to vote smart and I hope you will too.
