ARPANET was developed by the United Stated Defense Department and is considered the predecessor of what we now know as the Internet. Licklider’s discussion in his paper, “Intergalactic Computer Network,” describes the Internet of today and how important it is. ARPANET paved the way once it was combined with other large global networks and soon became known as the Internet.
The Internet has led to an amazing amount of use and has allowed people so share knowledge through and enormous global network. The Worldwide Web (WWW) soon came around in order for people to find and organize all of the ideas and information. Search engines also came around after the creation of the Internet to also help find all of the information that was being stored and used. From search engines came the dot com boom. The Internet has linked billions of people from all over the world by exposing and allowing them to organize and reach countless information.
The Internet also has many applications that have simplified daily life for some, email being one of the most well known. Email has allowed for instant communication and sharing of ideas to specific people. The Internet has become what it is today due to the ideas brought forth in “Intergalactic Computer Network” and the creation of ARPANET.
