everyone has been voted off the island...

i usually wake up early to hang out with the kitties, but i suppose they feel like sleeping in this morning.
work has been completely bonkers and corporate is cutting us down to the wire. in the past 3 weeks over 6 people were laid off, as far i know. now there's only enough people working there to cover the registers and hardly anyone of the floor. this is leading to angry customers, lack of ANY assistance, and our theft rate has sky rocketed. i'm pretty certain that the district manager is only curious to see the minimum amount of people it takes to run a store like this. with all this madness going on, i'm thankful for all the hours i get each week. everyone has been voted off the island and i'm a final contestant. you would think with hardly anyone working the schedule would be under control, but there's STILL significant problems. we still don't have set hours each week and the schedule is custom to each week going AGAINST our assigned availability. personally, i have lost count of how many times i was taken off, then put back on, then taken off again with out any heads up. BUT, as long as i get a pay check in the mail... i suppose that's what really matters. the lack of communication between managers and failed responsibilities are starting to take it's tole on employees ranked lowest on the totem pole. here's an example. we have a system of point and infractions. after collecting 6 infractions due to late clock ins you are automatically fired. BUT at 3 infractions you receive a verbal warning by the assistant manager and you sign a paper. after 4 and a half, you receive a written warning from corporate and sign another paper. once you reach 5 and a half, you receive a final warning with a piece of letter explaining that 1 more infraction will lead to automatic termination. all this is made up to protect any employee from sudden termination without communication. now, over the past several months my co workers have collected over 8 or 9 infractions without prior warnings and imminently dropped once the distract manager realized that there were people still working. they were dropped all at once. one girl refused to sign her termination papers and threatened the DA that she would call her lawyer. she kept her job and received 3 days of pay for the days she stayed home. now, not too long ago i received a final warning for infraction build up without any prior warnings. this all came to me as a surprise because i was promised that certain infractions would be removed, which they never were. while i assumed i only had 3, i actually had 5 and a half. i should have called the DA imminently, but i didn't.
i could probably go on to talk about how they recently had me on the schedule for monday, then took me off, then put me back on, they took me off again.... and put me back on again over night giving without telling me. the only reason why i haven't looked for another job is because i was promised transfer to a new downtown store where things should be better.... but if that doesn't happen i'll just have to hang myself in the yarn section.
