Today was an RDO and because I've been feeling so cruddy the last few days I decided to devote it to painting things for me. I picked up an old sketch (from 2009) and decided to try and emulate a digital coloured version I'd played with, focusing on the wings and the lighting. I'm not overly happy with the sword and her hand, but I think it filled in the day and got me over my 'my watercolour skills are seriously rusty'.

Believe it or not, the hair does not use black. It's all mixes of complementary colours. So even if there are parts I dislike, I learnt a fair amount and am happy with some of the effects.

Sophia is a goddess of wisdom, with references in Gnostic/ Judaism/ Christian religions. She is often symbolised by the dove, and I chose to pay homage to early Byzantine mosaics, liberally borrowing costume design elements.
