came home to find Landlady's Dad here, fixing our banister. he thinks that actually the neighbors called the city on somebody else (there's a shed up on the corner that's apparently got all kinds of crap in front of it, and rat nests all around, and so forth), and while they were back here they noticed the overgrown tree (which really wasn't that bad, but was heading toward the power lines), and the weeds, and decided to screw us over into the bargain. so then he said "i took care of the trees," and i went to the back window to look, and he's basically pruned them down to their trunks. if he can't pull them out himself, he's going to have a service come take 'em out. *sniff* bye, pretty trees.
BUT, that solves the problem of the badly-placed crape myrtle, and FR and i are already plotting about pretty much just ripping up the yard and starting from scratch. i wonder whether i'll be able to salvage my coneflowers. i splurged on some mixed-variety daffodil bulbs when i was at home despot the other day, 'cause i'm a sucker for daffodils and they were cheap (40 bulbs for like $7; why the fuck not, even if i am broke?), so once we've dug shit up we'll plant them. we did agree that the little topiary fir will stay, and maybe the poor overgrown hastas. (they've been diligently flowering through the weeds -- defiant little stalks with purple flowers poking up through the jungle!)
so. all's well that ends with the city getting their money, i suppose. and i gathered up most of my stuff for tomorrow. looks like the rain'll clear up tomorrow morning, but it'll be windy and COLD tomorrow night. i'm still gonna set up my tent, i think, b/c i've got two sleeping bags, ground pads, blankets, plastic sheeting to go under it, and a tarp to go over it, so i should be pretty toasty-warm. oh, and those little one-shot hand-warmers, which can be used as foot-warmers in a sleeping bag. haHA! i might even go wild and bring my wool patrolman's cloak, JIC.
now i just need to get AAs for my lantern & my headlamp (handy, that), some beer or cider, and some kind of food. which reminds me, i should call a certain someone and see if she has any idea what kinds of food we'll be short on...
erm. completely fried. was supposed to drive to annapolis today, but Manager supposedly had "somewhere else to go" right after we were coming back from the job, so she drove anyway. *eyeroll* i'm starting to think there's just a wee bit of control freak there, which should conflict nicely with my own tendencies in that direction. also, saints preserve me from 19-year-olds who think they know everything there is to know about Life, the Universe, and Everything. why bother asking somebody a question when you've already decided what the answer will be?
oh, speaking of which,
mercury goes retro tomorrow, so make sure you've got all your ducks in a row if you're doing any travelling or signing any contracts. or, to put it slightly differently, be exceptionally "detail-oriented", read the fine print, and don't make assumptions about other people's meanings when they say something you don't like or find hurtful. 'cause, you know, it may just have come out the wrong way.
