Okay, that's similar to how I've been doing it. my downfall with that is I'm not so good with the organizing later part. I still have boxes in the office that were part of a "get stuff up off the floor" de-cluttering and still need to be gone through/sorted/organized.

My goal this weekend: 2 loads of laundry (with chad's help); go through last box of Escort stuff; clean new vintage hot pink samsonite case and start putting things in it. Thankfully the latter two can mean I can plunk myself on the floor for a good hour, with a trash bin, paper towels, water/vinegar solution and a goodwill bag next to me, and sort sort sort. The water/vinegar and paper towels are to clean the things that are getting donated, as well as my case.

Also on the decks, if able: use vintage brown samsonite case (1970s vintage, not '60s like the pink one, which meant when I got it, I realized I had to have the pink one for actual travel) and pack a work emergency kit in that, then bring it in on Monday and stash it in my office. We're always encouraged to have extra medicines, etc. with us at work, as well as comfy shoes, so I should do that already.

Finally, all the stuff that I sorted through that came out of the escort needs to be hauled up to Goodwill. Thankfully, it's not that much, so Chad ought to be able to get it down to the car in one go and we can drive it over there. It's either that or just place it in the trash room with a big "FREE" sign on it. I'll ask him what he wants to do.

Regarding cleaning: where do you feel your weak areas are with regards to that? And I mean cleaning, not organizing. Maybe I can give some pointers on that (if you want 'em.)

Yeesh, sorry so wordy!

i think it's safe to say i started it. >;)

hee, you are so funny. i can totally dig, but you & your bag fetish... >;)

we should totally cheer each other on this weekend. >:) those are excellent goals, and i bet you can get 'em all done.

cleaning weak points: hmm, i'll have to think about that. sometimes i'm not sure how best to get at the crud that collects in corners, f'r instance, and it depends where it is -- in the bathroom, i've got no qualms about spraying some bleach-based cleaner or something on it and shoving a sponge in there and getting it up. in other parts of the house, it's a little trickier, what w/ the hardwood floors and all. plus, they're waxed floors, which means no harsh cleansers (according to the landlords -- i know diddlyshit about waxed floors), or presumably they'll get messed up.

i dunno. sometimes it's quantity more than anything -- how many times do i need to go over the floor with a mop? how do you tell when it's really clean? when the mop water rinses clear (more or less)? do you just give it a good swipe and hope it's enough?

i'll think about what my questions really are. more than anything, though, i think it would really help me to just watch somebody clean a house, which is why i'm thinking about asking theresa if i can hang out and give her a hand some time.

Oh, one more thing I just thought of: Bon Ami. For like 99 cents, you can't beati t.

It's non-toxic - you can use it on sinks, tubs, grout, pots and pans, dishes with shit stuck on - just about anything that can handle a slightly abrasive products. (And it is gently abrasive, not horrifically so.) I sprinkle a little and use a trader joe's sponge, and I even get into corners with it, and it just does the trick.

In the bathtub, I use a bleach cleaner on it for disinfecting, but I use Bon Ami to a) get rid of any oily residue from bath oils and fizzies, and b) get into tile grout, etc.

HTH
