[Info] Matsushita Yuya - Naturally Single

Naturally, released on 5.4.11, is Matsushita Yuya’s 8th single. Naturally was used in the NATURAL BEAUTY BASIC cm. There are eight versions of this single, with six of them including cover tracks.

「Naturally」 is a sweet R&B styled song. Matsushita’s vocals are smooth and go along with the instrumental nicely, along with the female vocals that come in every now and then. From when I watched the performance, it seems like most of the song is English with pieces of Japanese here and there. The song gives a fresh, relaxed feeling, which is what I got from his PV for the song as well. Matsushita’s rap fits in pretty nicely into the song.

Featuring a bit of a street feel, 「Back to Love」 carries a unique mix between the percussion and the piano. Matsushita’s vocals are really lovely against the instrumental, but I find my attention being drawn to the percussion instead of his vocals instead :/. Besides the percussion, the song is really sweet as he sings that he loves his girl and needs her. Aww.

The first of the cover songs, 「どんなときも。 (Donna Toki mo)」 is a Makihara Takiyuki cover.  Matsushita’s low vocals against the piano and electronica instrumental give an almost comforting feel to the song. I’d say this is something the listener should judge on, especially since all of these are cover songs. But I think Matsushita matches really well with the song.

「秘密の花園 (Himitsu no Hanazono)」 is a Matsuda Seiko cover. Matsushita sings with a slight autotune to his voice, and it seems that its done on purpose to make his vocals sound a bit higher? Maybe that’s just me. The song itself is cute and its sweet pop instrumental make the song upbeat and almost candy-like.

「季節が君だけを変える (Kisetsu ga Kimi Dake wo Kaeru)」 is a Bowie cover. The song has a mixture of electronica, some guitar, and a few other instruments in it. Matsushita’s vocals echo slightly against the instrumental as he sings his lines with smoothness.

「壊れかけのRadio (Kowarekake no Radio)」 is a Tokunaga Hideaki cover. The instrumental features the electronica and piano, a bit like a mid-tempo ballad. Matsushita’s vocals are soft but confident. There is a echo in his vocals in this song as well, but it gives his voice somewhat of a vulnerable feel to it.

「ラブ・ストーリーは突然に (Love Story wa Totsuzen ni)」 is a Oda Kazumasa cover. The instrumental is primarily piano with a bit of electronica. The song is upbeat as Matsushita sings a bit slowly compared to the instrumental, but it kinda matches the title as the instrumental is quick, but his vocals are slow as they attempt to catch up (Totsuzen ni means suddenly, so the title translates to “A Sudden Love Story”).

The last cover is 「夢で逢えたら (Yume de Aetara)」, a Yoshida Minako cover. Seems like an R&Bish ballad to me, as the piano and claps in the instrumental provide a calm, collected feel. More echoes here, but the song is sweet as he sings of wanting to meet his love in his dreams.

A PV was made for Naturally. Matsushita filmed the PV in Hawaii (sob) and it basically has him and his female actress walking around Hawaii and a few car scenes as well. There’s also a dancing scene outside Kahala Mall at night.

Since a majority of the songs included on this single were cover songs, I can’t judge much on it, but Matsushita matches and does a good job on each cover song. Naturally is a sweet song in his original style, which is nice to hear.
