Thank you! And I figured the Doctor's defenses would be at full after his encounter with the Master, but I admit to having a little a trouble with him in this! When I got the idea, it mostly centered around Jack. ;-)

This was fabulous - creepy, plotty, angsty, and unexpected. I loved it from start to finish. Jack's POV was perfect.

Thanks so much for sharing!

You're quite welcome :) Thank you for writing and sharing it. I didn't want to give it away in the rec, but I think your Rani is awesome and scary and completely in character. I love the line "I've never been all that great at hypnoses, like the Master. And I've never been as good at inspiring loyalty as the Doctor. But I have my own ways, and unlike theirs, mine work every time."

If they bring the Rani back in the series, I want it to be this one, from your story. She is just really creepy and alien, with a detached empiricism that sets her apart from generic mad scientists.

Thank you! I started to get the idea for this after first seeing The Mark of the Rani. After a string of larger than life villains like the Master, I found her strange merciless kind of neutrality refreshing. And I think her calm scientific take on things was even more unnerving than the Master's drive to destroy.

I can't say I like what they did with her in Time and the Rani, but I'd love it if they brought her back to try again.
