Thank you so much for all of the good wishes, I am hoping to reply soon-ish to the messages, but rest assured they have been read and adored and possible drunkenly recited at some point this weekend. There may have even been attempts to sing. (Oh GOD. I, uh, may have broken my facebook silence to respond to birthday wishes and now people I went to high school with remember that I exist and are trying to contact me D= )
And the v-gifts! Shiny hearts and beers and balloons for all~! It's like a party all up on my page. Much love to:
kianspo,
jaylee_g (x2!),
arminaa (x2!),
awarrington,
lrndng,
thisissirius &
gottalovev. Days were made as these came in, yes, yes ^.^
Back from Victoria--land of fat seals, fourth coffee days and all of the tasty, tasty beer (and one set of ill-conceived pineapple martinis XD) a girl can possibly handle. I had So. Much. Fun. I gained five birthday pounds and earned every one of them. I REGRET NOTHING.
My birthday consisted of my favourite people, fat seals, a crab feast and pubs. BFF Brett and I discovered by the virtue of Drunk Logic that an 8% pint becomes only 4% if you order the half-pint at last call, and I really regret that Swan's Scotch Ale was my last drink of the evening because I think it might have possibly been very, very good. Discerning tastes are a thing of sobriety, however, so I will live on assuming it was really good and have a convenient reason to revisit Victoria soon (you know, besides the gorgeous weather, proximity to the ocean and general awesomeness of the esteemed Melarty...).
I finally bought myself a replacement computer (happy birthday to me!) and I may have gone just a tiny bit overboard on specs. Just a tad. I mean, it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that I will make good use of 2 TB drives, a 60G SSD and the 300G dynamic HDD that used to be my laptop (RIP lil' Missy Oct2009-Oct 2011). And an i7 2600K processor just makes sense for the amount of multitasking I try to do. I frequently make...large...image files and download totally legal copies of TV shows that I may or may not someday get around to watching. I have more space to put them now. Totally justifiable. Practical, even.
Whatever, I had my reasons. Really well researched REASONS. Mostly boiling down to OH SHINY.
Now I just need to wait for them to finish building it. Supposedly this week is the week I will regain the ability to run gdocs at home again instead of trying to sneak edit/write at work which is mostly like trying to perform high level maths with a squawking toddler in the room. You make progress in 20 second increments, sure, but mostly you just end up hating everything.
(see that,
janice_lester and
gadgetorious? That was a sneaky reminder that I not only love you, but I haven't forgotten you either XD)
Oh! I am also no longer entirely failing in my goal to read Actual Books, On Paper in 2012. I'm about halfway through Vellum now, and I'm really enjoying it when I'm not wanting to beat the author over the head to demonstrate how I feel when he reintroduces the same concepts/characters a dozen different times. Yes, yes, your plot is very clever and complex. Yes, yes, there's a lot to keep track of, but FFS, I did pick up on your multiverse/timeline/mythology theme the first four times you mentioned it. Promise.
I have some issues with how one of the female characters (ha ha, I say one of as if there's more than) seems to have been gratuitously raped to provide Tragic Backstory and Proof That These Dudes Are Bad, Like Really Bad - but I'm willing to suspend judgement until I've finished reading because he's doing a fair job of portraying Homosexuals As Actual People.
Seriously, other than that it is a decent, fun read. (lol, have you cracked the spine yet
jaylee_g? February is almost like January, it's not too late for the slacker bookclub to really get going, maybe! ;) )
I think the next book I'm going to attempt is The Magicians by Lev Grossman because Melissa lent it to me in September and I should probably give it back soon. (I know, my selection criteria for the slacker bookclub is rigorous)
As promised: have some Fat Seals to brighten your day!
That seems to be all the babble I can fit into my lunch break. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend, let me know if I missed anything awesome.
