Art inspired by my sekrit-soulmate jaylee_g's adorkable advent fic Life Is Something To Do (When You Can't Get To Sleep) and my contribution to this year's ksadvent challenge.
I waffled about what to choose to draw. Christmas isn't really something I care about, or celebrate, for reasons, so the thought of a random holiday schmoop fest just didn't appeal this year.
When I read this story, I liked that it was more than just a holiday story and a love story; it was about Jim Kirk being determined to stand on his own, and about friendships that are more like what family should be, and being known and loved for everything that you are and will be.
It's not blatantly Christmas-y, but neither is the story. It's two people who care for each other, shown during the holiday season. Their love didn't happen because of the Magic of Christmas, and it will continue through to the new year and into the next, for a lifetime of Christmases that are just another day on the calendar to spend with somebody you love. Like every other day of the year, if you're lucky. :)
jaylee_g's been an amazing friend, cheerleader and sister to me-on hand with her wit, support and well-timed Takei macro spams at all hours-so doing this for her was an absolute joy. I love you, darling. Thanks for everything!
