I was going to do a full post, complete with several choice snippets of snark and Dani-mockery. I will probably still do this. Later.
I think, however, I can sum up the necessity of a good beta with one simple exchange.
From the fisting epic:
Original Text:
"One of the best things about being part of a team and knowing each other's strengths and weaknesses was that Steve took him at his word. Two blunt, strong fingers pushed inside without hesitation, to Tony's great appreciation. One of the best things about being part of a Relationship was that Steve knew exactly how to push Tony's buttons. More specifically, where to find his prostate, and holy shit-that was good. Great even.
"Yeah, yeah, fuck," Tony whined, wriggling his hips to work himself down on Steve's fingers and take him deeper. "Harder, just like that. Fuck, you're amazing. So fucking good at everything. Wish you could be in me all the time, you feel so good."
Steve took that as his cue to work in another finger, wet with lube and spreading Tony apart with short, sharp thrusts in. Team building, interdependence... amazing stuff, really. Highly effective. He'd personally shake Stephen Covey's hand next time Stark Industries had him in for Leadership workshops."
gadgetorious: This really isn’t all that relevant and kind of detracts from the... oh yeah, the AMAZING HOTNESS that is Tony fucking himself on Cap’s hand.
nix_this: And I am just now realizing that I actually referenced Stephen Covey in a sex scene. D= There is a special hell for this crime. THIS IS WHY YOU ARE AWESOME.
gadgetorious: Why? What do you usually talk about during sex if not Stephen Covey?:P
IDK guys, I was trying to make a long winded and ultimately unnecessary point about Steve and Tony growing closer as they worked together in a team. I also may be taking too many management courses.
Needless to say, this scene did not make it into the final version.
So yes. A GOOD BETA IS WORTH THEIR WEIGHT IN WHATEVER YOU VALUE. like dignity, perhaps?. Go, hug your beta. HUG THEM NOW. They are your first, best and ONLY line of defense against the horrible crimes your brain will try to commit behind your back. (Stephen Covey?? WHYYYYYY??)
Yes. Your beta is like a kitten that helps you fight off the forces of darkness and restore the tri-force. Exactly like that.
stripedpetunia... I'm never going to hear the end of this, am I?
