After I finished Frag, I headed out for some food. Now, having barely found the convention in the first place I had no idea what was around and finding out what was around required talking to people..
so..
talk to people and find someplace decent..
or..
randomly head out in a direction..
I went with option 2..
and since I didn't want to go too far I was pleased to see a 'chinese' buffet just across the street..
kick ass.. cheap food in huge amounts.. just what is needed for a convention
Oddly, as I entered I instantly humming Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto (DOMO!!), and as I gathered up a plate from the extremely poorly laid out buffet I even did a couple of robot dance moves. So I figured I would text the Skita-person whether or not that this was 'bad' and fell under the heading of 'Things the Nix should not do' (which happens to be quite a lengthy list). I didn't see the response till some time later and it was ambigious..
The food was quite unspectacular (the hot/sour soup had cheese in it) and I headed back to the convention. There I wandered a bit and decided to start my shopping.. but.. more on that later..
While wandering, I heard the start to some drum beats and headed out to find them. Turns out that it was a Japanese drum thingie, not a surprise since it was an anime convention. What could be fucking hotter than a group of hawt chicks getting all sweaty and breathless while they beat the living hell out of something.. and yes.. I dropped the f-bomb on that one.. it was that freaking hot. Two of them were even twins..
it was hawt..
twins hawt..
which is an all together different sort of hawt..
not only were they the hawtz, but they were also quite good.
Turns out that they are a group from a college in Minnesota, unfortunately most of the group couldn't attend due to being deathly ill.
feel free to check them out (I know I did!!! insert lame drum riff :-D )

After that I had some more time to kill, so what better to do than buy some more games!
I ended up purchasing Zombie Fluxx.. and it looks just as intriguing as the original Fluxx game (one of the few card games I fully endorse, especially to those with kids.. Fluxx is extremely child friendly while remaining interesting to adults.. a true rarity) for 9 bucks (around half off), a copy of Chrononauts (from the same company as Fluxx and equally good) for 7 bucks (just over half off), an rp called Dead World that looked faintly interesting for 8 bucks, Ricochet Robot for 2 bucks (way way over 80% off), Zombies!!! 4 'The End'.. which interacts, or stands alone, from my other Zombies!!!! products.. but this one had a hundred zombie dogs :-D
zombie dogs!!!
that freakin rocks..
Zombies!!! 4 set me back 17 bucks.. but goes for around 30..
I also picked up a game called Mwahahahaha!
" A card game of mad scientists and global domination "
now.. honestly.. how the frak could I pass up a game like that????
no.. really.. how?
It would be impossible, I tell you.. impossible!!!
It was by far the most expensive at 20 bucks.. and usually goes for 35.. but the quality of pieces was amazing. The game probably weighs in at like ten pounds. I also had an inkling of how good this game might be when the clerk person gushed over it. Now, normally a game store clerk will gush over a game to be good sale people, but an experienced gamer will know the difference between fake zeal and actual zeal for a game.
Lastly, I picked up a copy of Go for four bucks.. while I enjoy the game.. I mostly grabbed it cause it was cheap and made/makes me look at least partially smart..
by then it was around 9 so I went to the Oddcon room party..
unfortunately, the person with the booze wasn't there (I guess) so it was basically three geeks sitting watching Serenity. As I watched one of the most amazing films ever, I removed stickers from my newly bought games (oh, I should also mention that all the games were new or almost new). Now, you might think to yourself..
three geeks watching a movie..
who the hell would be interested..
other geeks!!!
yes.. simply by sitting there and watching kick ass crap.. we actually drew not one.. not two.. but three roomfuls of people. One group wandered past, so I waved and they came in, and automatically said 'holy crap.. is that Serenity?' and then proceeded to watch it with us..
The fact that the room had more food that the consuite (a room that is supposed to have free food and beverages for con-goers, for those uninitiated to the geek-esq convention) also helped.
There was another indication that the purchase of Mwahahaha!! was indeed a good choice as several of the people zipped over to it and said 'holy crap.. Mwahahahaha!! that game f'in rocks'
Even though the Oddcon party had several things going against it (bad location, lack of alcohol, a dance party going on at the same time, and it basically being an anime party whose patrons had no inkling of who Joss Whedon was (no.. really.. when the Whedonverse selection came up at Geek Jeapordy.. the people up had no clue who or what it was)) there was still a great deal of interest in the upcoming Oddcon..
if I haven't mentioned it yet.. but.. Monte Cook.. the dude that wrote D&D 3.0 and 3.5 will be there.. so.. if any other geek happens to be in Madison at that time and have a love of D&D.. they should probably go.
We also watched Gamers, Gamers 2.0: Dorkness Rising, and the first season of The Guild.. anyone and everyone should see these..
but then it came time for sleep..
so I ambled on out to my truck and crawled in the back.
It helps that I am short and can sleep almost anywhere.. but I guess I also have a heftier constitution than most others cause while many others are shivering I am thinking.. 'Man.. this is nice napping weather'
so while the temp plummeted to around 25 or 30.. I slept quite happily
Sunday morning..
very little went on and since I had not slept Friday evening the five hours I grabbed saturday night didn't do all that much to help.. thus I blundered about and actually drank some coffee. As I went past a set of doors I saw the taiko drum chicks struggling to bring their drums back in for a panel they were presenting (the only reason I stayed really) and grabbed the door for one of them
she quipped ' Why, thank you. '
and I replied with, 'no problem, you're quite welcome' I then scuttled away lest I have to speak more..
farther down the hall another con-goer happily and all too cheerfully beeped out 'good morning' with an all too happy and cheerful grin on his face, to which I replied with a mixture of whatever and piss off, but sounded like
'mmblaarrrg..'
During the drum panel thingie it became apparent that sleeping through it would be quite difficult.. or so it appeared to one of the hawties as she was roused from her attempt. Although she claimed that she had not tried to sleep, but was basically trying to remain as immobile as possible while also staying as quiet as possible while she kept her eyes closed..
I believed her.. most didn't.. but I did..
this was mostly based on the fact that she was the hawtz..
However, before they could really start they had their 'punishments' for minor screw-ups from the night before.. (I have to say.. my ears did perk up when they said punishment). To pay for their punishments they had to do push-ups..
I have to say here..
they all really sucked at doing push-ups..
they admitted to sucking at doing push-ups though.. so.. I guess that makes it o.k.
There was audience participation, that I avoided..
and a short question answer session.. that I avoided.. cause that would require me talking to hawt chicks that appear to enjoy beating the crap out of things..
but, as I left, I slipped in like five bucks cause they were collecting so they could study for a week in Japan over one of the holidays (spring, I think) and thought that they had played their damned hearts out and five bucks was an amazing deal for me compared to the amount of enjoyment garnered..
(and I don't just mean the eye-candy part.. they were really quite good to listen to.. Nix will ogle many a chick.. but won't sit there for hours if that's all they have going for 'em)
I also picked up a few comics.. cause the dude that drew them was there and signed them for free and they were of Drizzzt D'urden (dark elf dude)
In the end.. too much money was spent on random games, but a well enjoyed weekend was had
Nix
