Moving SUCKS

Ok, so my contact at the County Human Relations Commission wants me to fax her some files. I said no problem because I've got a scanner and my computer will act happily as a fax machine.

Of course, I hadn't yet set up the scanner.

I can't find its power cord, or any power cord with the right connector that's not in use.

Next time I move, I'll be smarter about the cables. I was an idiot this time and just lumped them all together in one bag, not even thinking about the fact that they may be different voltages/wattages, whatever. Trying to sort it out wasn't fun, and now I've lost track of any power cables / transformers that I haven't already set up.

Feh.

If I had time to just go through and clean all this crap up so I could get organized, I'd just do that and not think twice... but I was silly and forgot about the fax right after I got off the phone and have been goofing off for an hour or so since. Grrr. I suck.

Edit
Found it. It was in a ziploc bag with another device and its associated cables. I must've put them all together *here* because I was trying to clean up stuff and I was already frustrated with the cable issues and these were all laying together so I thought they all belonged together. Turns out that other device draws its power entirely from the USB port, so it doesn't even have an input for the power cable... had I not checked that, I never would've found it... heh.

Now I just need to find some way to arrange everything so my cables aren't spiderwebbed all over this place... ... hrm... Anyone in the LA area good at organizing desks & computers & peripherals and getting cables sorted and tucked away? I'm willing to negotiate some fair compensation... =D

move, home
