I recently (christmas) started playing... and honestly, I love the game. I know I could get years out of enjoyment out of the game, partially because I don't really grind levels all the time. I mess around and explore lots, and I take lots of time off. I imagine that if I had unlocked every job to 75 and explored all the different job combos and explored every area, and done everything, I would be sick of it... but I am not really.

I forsee it will be quite awhile before I get to 75, so before I even think about being discontented with having the absolute most awesome gear or what not. Have you leveled any of the newer jobs? Maybe you would enjoy the game more if you leveled a new job instead of trying to make an old one perfect...

as for aht urgan... well... I first played back during the pc only release... and it wasn't better than the world now. I quit after only playing for 3 months. I've been going longer this time, and after getting my first main, whm, to 37, I've chosed a Aht Urgan job to be my first to level 75, the blu mage.

Yeah, maybe they take awhile to finish each installment, but remember, there are lots of people at any one time in the game who haven't gotten far at all in the storylines... so maybe the developers are (rightly) expecting that a number of players who have already explored all the available plotlines are likely to quit at any one time anyway...

and as for improving the experience of new players over trying to please older ones, I hate to think like a business-person, but it makes way more business sense to keep any new players you attract playing, than to add more and more stuff at the top end of the scale, where the fewest players can access it anyway.

As for whether you come back or not, well that just depends on what you want, but I think it is a little hasty to declare this game dead.
