Exploring 'Mystical Landscapes' exhibit at the AGO
A couple of weeks ago I got a free pass to the AGO from the library (they get in a few each month which they give away) so lady__croft took a half day off today to go see the Mystical Landscapes: Masterpieces from Monet, Van Gogh and More exhibit. The AGO website says "...exploring the mystical experiences of 37 artists from 14 countries, including Emily Carr, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, Claude Monet, Edvard Munch, Georgia O'Keeffe and James McNeill Whistler." I found the art to be more - seeing the spiritual within nature - and of course I was hooked.
All the paintings were lovely and very moving. Notable paintings/artists included: Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night over the Rhone at Arles; Paul Gauguin's Vision of the Sermon (Jacob Wrestling with the Angel); Claude Monet's Water Lilies (Nymphéas); Edvard Munch's The Sun; Georgia O'Keeffe's Series I - from the Plains; and a recently rediscovered French artist Charles Marie Dulac illustration of St. Francis of Assisi's Canticle of Creation.
I'm so glad I went to see this. It was much more than I expected and found some new artists to enjoy! Sweden's Eugene Jansson's whose painting called "Dawn over Riddarfjarden (Gryning over Riddarfjarden)" and a couple of others that were in similar vein were on display and then I saw Czech painter Wenzel Hablick, "Sternehimmel" and "The Crystal Castle at Sea" and I fell in love with these paintings - the colours are more vivid and breathtaking in person.Check out the links if you'd like to see what these looked like. The exhibit has been extended until February 12, 2017 so catch it if you can and be prepared to be moved to tears by some of the beautiful works of art on display!
