Music Review: His Infernal Majesty (HIM)

Recently horse_chic7 handed me a few CD's from one of her favorite bands, HIM. I gave them a listen and decided that this really wasn't my kind of music. What strikes me as funny is that I felt compelled to articulate why that is for the sake of clarification.

Pros: Fantastic lead guitarist and drummer. They both seem very talented and would be a great addition to any rock band line-up.
The theme of the records and individual songs were very 'in your face', dark, brooding and controversial. This suits me just fine.
The lead singer has a great voice and reminds me a little of Gavin Rossdale from Bush, whom I admire (not for his looks so much as his wife Gwen).

Cons: The first two albums I listened to leaned heavily on the use of a 1970's 'synthesizer' sounding keyboard. This killed the 'Rock' sound of most songs.
The lyrics are very simple and overly repetitive. This is the same reason I don't care for AC/DC and many other bands like them.
The singer works too hard at being Mr. Mellow, which also kills the rock sound and makes this more of a pop band.
