Interview Recap

The interview went well. I dressed up as seen in the picture, the nice tie courtesy of my wonderful girlfriend, Abbie.

Dressed up for the interview

Ironically, the manager of the department I applied to was wearing a sweatshirt, some athletic pants (those crinkly kind, I don't know what they're called) and a pair of tennis shoes. I didn't regret dressing formally though, I think it gave the impression that I wanted the job, which I do. He seemed like a real nice guy, very comfortable to be around. Throughout the interview and afterwards I felt like it went well. I was comfortable with my answers. Mosts importantly I felt I was honest in giving them and also that they were well received by him.

When he was finished interviewing me, Todd (the manager) told me he had a couple more people to interview tomorrow and that I'd find out if I got the job by the middle or end of next week. So a couple hours later I was a little surprised when I received a call from the company. Turns out Todd told human resources that he thought it would be in the best interests of the company if I filled another position they had open which is for a fulltime production technician.

The job description for that position as described on their webisite is:

"Assist with preparation, setup, and production of quality culture media, cleaning area and equipment. We will train a motivated self-starter, quality oriented applicant, with ability to read and diligently follow verbal and written documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Some knowledge of science helpful. Must be able to push or pull 50lbs and climb a ladder."

When the lady who called explained the job to me, I let her know that my knowledge of science pretty much ceased to expand with chemistry my junior year in high school, but she said they'd be willing to train "the right person." So I told them I'd be interested, and she set up an appointment for me on Monday to see if I'm that person. I can honestly say that I'm resting in God about this area much more than I was before, I definitely wasn't earlier this week. God's taught me some humbling things about where my trust was placed through this whole process of finding a job. I'll post some more about that later, just wanted to update you all on the situation as I promised.
