Hello again! It has been quite awhile.

This time round I'll be covering three products - but as annotated reviews. After looking back over my earlier entries I've noticed how long they seem to didder on. So my goal here is to reduce the actual quantity but increase the qualityBe warned, this is a beta test ( Read more... )

I agree with you in many ways - but not entirely nivenus August 27 2009, 18:24:52 UTC
I was going to keep my review free of Season 4 spoilers, but since you brought up the ending, I'll address some of your points here.

Yes, the ending, in my opinion, is dreadful. Abominable. It doesn't ruin the rest of the show for me, however, and I think it actually shows that they did eventually have an end in mind - just not as quickly as would have been wise.

I don't agree that the cylons got less interesting as they became more complex, human characters psychologically. I will say, however, that the continuing narrow-ing of physical differences between human and cylon only served to water down what had appeared to be a central message of BSG (only for the finale to cancel that out) - treating others who are different ain't such a great idea. But by making the cylons so much like humans, to the point that the viewer couldn't really tell what actually made them different, was a bad idea.

And I have to say I was genuinely surprised and angry to see how luddite the ending to BSG was. I am sick and tired, as you are, of anti-technology, let's all live in the wilderness crap. Yes, technology has brought us a lot of crap, but on the whole, it's made our lives easier and better in quality. As you point out - few people realize how hard life would be without the comforts of electricity, modern medicine, and many other things we take for granted. Sure, you get rid of the cars - but that's not all.

Not to mention that the show is even consistent at that. Baltar actually goes about claiming that he's going to invent agriculture. Hello, that's also a technology! It's one of the reasons why, in spite of the talent behind it, I'm slightly skeptical of Avatar.

So, yeah, in general, I agree with you. But not entirely. All in all, I still liked Season 4 alot. I just though the ending sucked ass.
