Christmas, cyberpunk, and theorising the melting point

Impending Penguin release from William Gibson: Spook Country.

I'm a bit annoyed that I haven't been able to incorporate Gibson's spec fic into my thesis more strongly. Early on it seemed like I could use the work of this particular 'god father of cyberpunk' to enhance and demonstrate how we deal with technology in its socio-political dimensions. Now it more resembles a hunting ground for ideas, a battlefield of concepts where the first blood drawn is from a variant of a Japanese subculture straight from the bowels of Tokyo.

For what it's worth though, you gave me the best conceptual gift this year Mr Gibson: gomi. And in a strange twist, the meaningless pile of discarded junk has come to be incredibly useful for making something of Prof Zizek's indelibly erudite ramblings on ideology.
