Oops!
OMG! My landlord does these monthly inspections of our apartment and one of the things we, as tenants, are never to do is take the battery out of our smoke alarms.
About a week ago, ours died and kept making this annoying noise, so I took it apart. I was too busy/lazy to tell the landlord we needed it replaced.
Earlier, I was just sitting down on my couch, trying to enjoy my small break I had btwn school and work, when suddenly I remembered that the inspection was supposed to be today! I climbed onto a chair and assembled the alarm as best as I could. I had just attached it to the ceiling when I heard the knock at the door.
The landlord went straight to it and...wait for it...wait for it...
He went to touch it and it crumbled into pieces that landed all over the table and floor.
I pretended to have no idea how this could've happened, but he seemed suspicious!
