5 Years Ago Continued

The whole house remained silent as the two boys sitting on the tiled kitchen floor ate in mutual contentment.  Taemin finished his apple and tossed the core into the trash bin across the room.
"Nice shot," the taller of the two mumbled between mouth fulls of food.
"I've been wondering, how did you find this house?" Taemin asked quietly.
"I was lost, and finally a car passed by, so I headed in the direction it came from," Minho replied.
"Why were you lost?" Minho faltered for a second before continuing to stuff his face.  Taemin understood that it was an uncomfortable subject so he didn't push him for an answer.  "The car you saw was probably my dad's; he left not too long ago."
Minho just nodded and continued eating the leftovers.  Taemin was slightly frustrated that he couldn't get the other to talk.  He let out an exasperated sigh and stretched his legs out in front of him.  He turned to look at Minho, observing his expressions for any clue as to who the boy is.  All he could see was a hungry teenager destroying a box of leftovers.  His cheeks were tinted red and stained with dirty tears.  The track jacket that he wore looked like a school sport's team jacket.  Did the boy go to school nearby?  The only school close to this area was the academy at the heart of the city he'd visited yesterday.  "Do you go to school nearby?"
"I don't know if it's nearby," Minho replied softly, "but, I go to Songsam Middle School."
Taemin smiled to himself, relishing the thought that he'd met a student today.  "That sounds so nice, belonging to a school."
"You don't go to school?" Minho asked suddenly.
"I'm home schooled.  My dad doesn't like the thought of me mingling with the outside world," Taemin said adding magical spirit fingers to the phrase "outside world".  Minho laughed softly at the boy next to him.  "But, I really wish he'd let me go.  I don't have any friends besides my hyungs, but they're always really busy and don't have time to waste with me," Taemin continued leaning his head against the counter with his eyes closed.
"Don't be upset over not having friends.  One day those you care about will suddenly die and leave you all alone wondering what the hell to do," Minho whispered stabbing the contents of the box.  Fresh tears fell from his cheeks, and Minho angrily tried to wipe them away with his dirty sleeve, but they wouldn't stop and in a matter of seconds he was painfully sobbing.  Taemin was surprised at the sudden outburst and struggled to come up with a way to console him.  Taemin placed his hand on the convulsing boy's back and awkwardly rubbed it.  The boy jolted slightly at the sudden skin-ship, but didn't make any move to stop Taemin.  They remained like that for an awkward ten minutes until Minho's sobs settled into only a runny nose and puffy eyes.  He sat up and Taemin removed his hand from his back.  Taemin stared at Minho trying to read his face for any clues to the reason for his outburst.
"I'm sorry.  I must seem like a total jerk, breaking in and then crying like a baby." His tone was sharp and his eyes were glaring at the air in front of his face.  Taemin could have sworn Minho was capable of setting fire with those eyes.
"Don't be sorry.  I don't care if you broke in," Taemin replied turning his whole body to face Minho, "and I don't care if you cried like a baby." Minho gawked at the boy's sudden assertive tone.  Taemin was unsure of where all his confidence was streaming from, but he just knew he wanted to cheer the other boy up.  "All I care about is you being happy."
'This boy must be crazy,' Minho thought to himself.  He'd met this boy only twenty minutes ago and here he was treating him like a brother.  Minho's eyes wouldn't leave the others intense stare, and finally, Minho's lips curved into a small smile and whispered back, "It's too late for happiness."
Taemin's stare never faltered.  "I don't know what happened to make you think that happiness is a once in a lifetime opportunity, but I do know that sometimes shit makes you mad," Minho was taken aback by the sudden cursing, "people lie through their teeth, others hope you slip and fall, but their threats can't affect you." Taemin paused to take a breathe and let his words soak into the atmosphere.  "At least, that's what my dad taught me."
Minho was unaware of the silent tears that had escaped his eyes during his lecture. "Happiness is a choice, not some opportunity like a job offer.  There's an opening on Tuesday from 11:30 to 2:00, would you like to come in for happiness?" Taemin mocked, and Minho couldn't suppress a chuckle.  His lips moved on their own to form a slight smile and he wiped the last of his tears on his sleeve.
"You're right," Minho conceded, "Who'd have thought it." His smile widened and Taemin followed suite.
"C'mon, you look nasty," Taemin stood up, "You can take a shower and borrow some clothes.  You can stay the night too if you want too.  I'd ask my dad to take you home, but I don't know when he'll be back." Taemin's voice was laced with excitement.
Minho stood up as well and replied with a quite "thank you" and a genuine smile.  He thought this would be the worst day of his life, but at the moment, his heart was telling him that this day was the luckiest day of his life.  Minho was unsure of whether to believe his head or his heart, so he just left it as a dilemma and followed the younger boy up the stairs. They entered Taemin's bedroom and Taemin went to his dresser in search of some clean clothing.  He opened the drawer and then turned back to inspect Minho.
"Now that I think about it, I don't think you're my size," he admitted and Minho held an amused smile.  Taemin rushed out of the room, signaling for Minho to wait there, and came back two minutes later with a larger pair of black pants, boxers, and a black and gold t-shirt.  "I don't think Key-hyung would care if I borrowed some clothes," then he paused to re-think that statement, "Actually, he's going to throw a bloody fit over it, but that's okay." He motioned for Minho to follow him, and they walked across the hallway to the bathroom.  Taemin handed Minho the set of clothes and a grabbed a towel from the cabinet, throwing it at Minho before exiting the bathroom.

Minho finished his shower and pulled on the borrowed clothes before turning the light off and heading back to Taemin's room.  He reached for the knob, his hand froze for a second before grasping the knob and turning it.  He didn't realize that he'd shut his eyes when he opened the door until he heard his heart beating at a pace that was highly unhealthy.  He forced his eyes open slowly and found Taemin scooted onto one side of his bed sleeping soundly.  Minho watched the boy for what seemed like forever until his exhaustion returned to tug at his eyelids.  Minho set his folded dirty clothes in the corner along with his shoes and quietly slipped into the other side of the bed.

Jay glanced at his watch before unlocking the front door to his house.  It was 4:56 in the morning, and he was sure everyone was sleeping.  He quietly went to the closest washroom and cleansed his bloody hands.  He'd killed another man that night, but this time, he deserved it.  As much as his actions were justified, he still couldn't shake the guilt that was eating his heart to pieces.  He blamed himself for being naive, and vowed never to make the same mistake again, but he still could not forgive himself.  He knows Choi Suwon can't forgive him either.

Minho awoke with an urgent need to pee.  He shuffled out of the bed, trying his best not wake the other boy.  Then he quickly made his way across the hall.  Minho finished his business and exited the bathroom, heading back toward his sleeping friend's room.  He considered the boy a friend now.  He wasn't sure why, but he somehow knows that their friendship is inevitable.
Minho had taken one step into the hallway when he caught another figure out of the corner of his eye headed his way.  He turned his head to see who it was, but the figure was gone.  Then he felt the, now familiar, cold surface of a blade to his neck.  'What is it with this family and death threats!?'
"Who are you!" snapped a furious Key.  Then he noticed how the stranger was extremely fashionable.  "AND WHY THE HE'LL ARE YOU WEARING MY CLOTHES!" Key screamed, waking the rest of the house hold.
"My name is Minho.  I-I-I, uh, slept over with Taemin last night," Minho replied, heart-rate increasing once again.  Just then Taemin flung his room door open and stepped out into the hallway noticing Key with a blade to Minho's neck.
"Hyung!  Put the knife away please!  He's my, uh, friend," Taemin looked to Minho for approval in his choice of words.  Minho smiled back at him and Taemin continued, "he broke in last night because he was lost."
"You what?" Key addressed Minho as he lowered his blade and forced the boy to face him.  But before Minho could plead his case, another boy with brown hair entered the hallway and cut in.
"What is going on here?" Onew calmly said.  He held a knife in his hand as well just in case there was an intruder.  Minho noticed the knife and couldn't stop himself from speaking.
"What is with all the freaking weapons?  Do you never have company or something?" Minho was starting to be concerned about his safety in this household.
"We don't," Onew stated, and Minho suddenly understood why Taemin had been so eager to let Minho stay the night.  Taemin walked up to Minho and quietly pulled him behind him so that he could separate Minho from his furious hyungs.
      "Please stop threatening my friend."
"What friend?" Jay asked while coming up the stair case.  He looked almost dead the way his skin had turned sickly pale and his eyes had sunken into his face.  Onew and Key immediately bowed and mumbled good mornings to their employer.  "You know I have rules about company."
"He's my friend," Taemin spoke-up, although he failed to meet his father's eyes.  Jay was surprised that Taemin was the culprit.  Where could he have gone to make friends for that matter. "I met him last night after you left.  He was lost so I let him stay here for the night," Taemin confessed, still failing to look up at Jay.
"What's your name boy?" Jay demanded in a harsher than usual tone, and Taemin was afraid that he may have put Minho in danger by letting him stay.
"Choi Minho, sir." Jay froze.  He had wondered why the boy had seemed familiar, and now he realized it was because he had seen those same big eyes lose their life only hours ago.   "Where are your parents?" Jay asked although he was afraid of the answer.
"My mother left when I was young and," Minho paused for a second gathering the courage to finally state the fact aloud, "my father is dead."  Minho stared right into Jay's eyes as he said those last words.  Taemin finally looked up, but only to look at Minho with sadness in his eyes.  He understood now why Minho had broken down earlier.  Taemin looked over at Jay and was surprised to see him almost trembling.
Apparently Key noticed as well because he asked, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," Jay snapped back and quickly retreated to his office at the end of the hall.  Everyone else awkwardly stood in the hall unsure of what to do.  Jonghyun was already in Jay's office waiting for him.

"I heard the boy's name and realized who he was, but I don't think anyone else out there knows who he really is," Jonghyun said as soon as Jay had locked the door.  He sunk down into his chair and covered his face with his hands.
"I killed that kid's father," he admitted more to himself than to anyone else.  The guilt in his stomach was now setting-off nuclear bombs within his body.
"Y'know, I don't know if I'm even in a position to say anything about this matter, but I personally think that Suwon wouldn't appreciate it if his son was left to starve alone."
"You're right," Jay replied revealing his face to look at Jonghyun, "you aren't in any position to say anything." Jonghyun stiffened, but then Jay continued, "but, you do make a good point.  How can I ever ask for forgiveness if I haven't earned it?" Jonghyun flashed one of his signature smiles and left the office.

"It wouldn't be right to force a young boy to fend for himself in such a cruel world," Jay spoke softly but deliberately, "and so, I will offer you a home here if you want it.  You don't have to if you don't want to, but I do hope you will live with us and become apart of this group."
Minho was surprised by the sudden offer.  Taemin who sat beside him on the couch also seemed to be just as surprised since his jaw had fallen to the floor and his eyes had nearly tripled in size.  Taemin looked at Minho and their eyes met once again.  Minho could tell Taemin was excited by the thought of such a situation and to be honest, he was too.  Right now, his priority was to find his father's killer and take his revenge, but he barely had a clue who had done it and not to mention that he would need resources to complete his revenge.  There seemed to be plenty of knives in this house, so he agreed with a smile.
