[It wasn't until later in the night that Jeep was starting too feel sick. The tiny dragon's temperature spiked up and he couldn't stop shaking, unable to keep anything down. Flopped like a squished rag in a basket placed their rented room, the tiny critter was really, really sick.
Who would suspect that the fish he'd been given at the restaurant they ate at earlier in the day had been poisoned? The seemingly kind young waitress had thought that the small dragon was 'soooo cuuute' and gave him a snack on the house.
Now the ikkou's only means of transportation was too sick to even move.]

[ At the window, Gojyo blew a cloud of smoke toward the sky and glanced over his shoulder at the sick little lizard. Jeep looked even worse than he had earlier, if that was possible. ]
Hey. They'll be back soon.
[ With medicine and a vet and gods only knew what else. Hakkai should have stayed, Gojyo thought, grinding his cigarette out on the pile of butts on the windowsill. He should have gone for the vet while Hakkai stayed here with Jeep. What did he know about tending a sick dragon? ]
[He gave Gojyo a tired and pained look from his place in the basket, and then flopped one of his toothpick-boned wings over the edge of his bed. It was followed by another tiny whine before he was throwing up the rest of the broth Hakkai had given him before he left.
[ He jumped back, even though there was no way for the dragon-puke to touch him. So gross, Jeep. Hurling everywhere, that was seriously fucking...
...red? ]
Jeep?
[ Shit. Shit. He wasn't a doctor by any stretch, but he knew what bloody puke meant.
Uncertain, Gojyo knelt down next to Jeep's basket. ]
I don't suppose you just ate a mouse or somethin', huh?
[ Slowly, he reached out a hand, wincing in expectation of being bitten. Jeep had never liked him much - the feeling was mutual - but for the first time ever Gojyo reached out his hand hoping to be bitten. Poor Jeep didn't look healthy enough to lift his head, much less bite. ]
[Jeep didn't even hiss, glancing tiredly up at Gojyo and then coughing slightly. He was still shivering and it seemed like his fever was spiking up again, from the way the little critter was radiating heat and how his mane was wet from sweat.]
...kyuu.
[Making a rather sad sound, the tiny dragon leans a little to his side. His belly seems a little bloated and there's a bit of blood in his bedding as well.]
[ What should he do? Coughing blood, that meant internal bleeding. If it was poison, the best thing was to puke it all up. But if it was something sharp, like he'd eaten a piece of glass or something, then puking could kill him.
Gently, Gojyo stroked the damp fur of Jeep's mane. ]
Hakkai'll be back soon.
[ The little guy was burning up. If he was a person, he'd need to be cooled down. Gojyo stood, clumping frantically around the room, grabbing a glass of water and his discarded tee-shirt to serve as a towel.
Carefully, he dipped a corner of the shirt into the glass and bathed Jeep's tiny face and mane, trying to bring down his fever. ]
[Jeep reacts a bit at Hakkai's name, ears flicking and his tired eyes focusing. Hakkai. The one he called 'Mine' would come back soon and everything would be okay. He cheeps a little when Gojyo steps away, but settles down again when the man comes back.
...oh, that feels nice. Closing his eyes, Jeep enjoys the way the water cools him down a little.]
[ So the little guy knew at least one word, huh? Heh. Gojyo continues the slow bath, careful not to press too hard. Jeep might usually be a tough little fucker, but right now he feels like he's made of glass and paper. ]
Yeah, Hakkai. He'll make you feel all better, give you some medicine or somethin, and you'll be back to shittin' in my shoes in no time.
[ With a rare show of tenderness, Gojyo cleaned all the traces of blood and bile from Jeep's fur and scales, cradling the tiny head in the palm of his other hand as he worked. ]
I sure don't envy you one bit. He's gonna nag and nurse you until it drives you crazy, Hakkai is. But you deserve it. That's what you get for makin' him worry.
[Oh, he knew a lot of words. It was just hard to think that such a little critter was really intelligent. Hakkai knew, though, and that was why they had such a good connection. The dragon was much more than a car, after all.
Jeep seems a little better after being cleaned and cooled down, and he curls up a bit more, withdrawing his stretched wing to cuddle up better. He keeps his head in Gojyo's hand, snuggling up against his thumb and closing his eyes.]
...And don't you think this cute act is gonna change anythin' between us, rat.
[ Setting the shirt aside, Gojyo lays his free hand over Jeep's neck and strokes the (surprisingly soft) scales in a soothing rhythm. Damn little thing, being all cute and helpless. Hopefully Jeep will fall asleep before Gojyo's ass does. ]
[While Gojyo pets him, Jeep makes a tired purring sound for a moment before it faded out. Smoky was actually nice to have around when Mine wasn't there. He wasn't competing for Mine's affection that way, and that always made Jeep grouchy. But it still felt really scary to be away from Mine when he felt sick. He even missed Loud and Hungry. Splitting the group just made the dragon worry.
It doesn't take long at all for the exhausted little dragon to fall asleep, and with his fever down a little he's not shaking as much. Jeep's breathing is a bit strained, though. High fever is rather damaging to little critters. He'll sleep for nearly an hour if no disturbed.]
[ And Gojyo, contrary to anything he might have said, sits with Jeep the entire time, letting the little guy use his hand for a pillow as long as he likes. ]
After a short time of rest the dragon suddenly starts to stir, giving a pained whine. Eyes wide, he breathes in short gasps, obviously in some serious pain but lacking the energy to scream. The poison was slow-working, but the amount of damage it was making seemed to have reached a critical point.
[ Beginning to panic, Gojyo carefully pulls his hand from beneath Jeep's head, and wipes his hand on the side of his pants. That was a lot of blood for such a tiny body! ]
Oh god, oh fuck.
[ If there's something in Jeep's stomach, he has to know. He can't wait for Hakkai and the vet. Carefully, wincing in apology, Gojyo probes Jeep's tiny body, trying to feel if there's anything solid in there that shouldn't be solid. ]
What did you eat, huh? You're gonna be okay, I just need to figure out what you ate.
[Being touched like that makes the little dragon whine and bare his tiny needle teeth in protest, but he doesn't lift his head or even look at Gojyo. He was like a rag doll, just draped over the bedding and snorting a glob of blood from his little nose.
His belly is still rather bloated in a hard, tensed way that might mean he was bleeding internally. Even if Gojyo is gentle, the touch there makes him cheep and he weakly flaps his wings, trying to get away.
The movements just makes it worse and he coughs up more blood together with a half-digested fish tail. The tiny, slimy meat left seems dotted with blue-green dust... rather similar to rat poison.]
[ Too bad Gojyo didn't have the first clue what rat poison looked like. He was expecting a nail, maybe, or some gravel... and when the fish tail appeared, Gojyo's first thought wasn't that it was poisoned, but that Jeep had managed to eat a fish with the hook still in its mouth.
The tenderness and the swollen area around Jeep's stomach seemed to confirm that. Fuck. Now what? He was no doctor, and something like this needed surgery to correct. There was nothing he could do. ]
Just hold on, okay?
[ Mechanically, he strokes Jeep's tiny head. Feeling worthless is just about the worst thing in the world. ]

It doesn't take long at all for the exhausted little dragon to fall asleep, and with his fever down a little he's not shaking as much. Jeep's breathing is a bit strained, though. High fever is rather damaging to little critters. He'll sleep for nearly an hour if no disturbed.]
