"Maata, Pita, Guru, Nalla Nanban, Deivam"
This one statement totally did it for me from Kuselan, the movie that I just saw. Its not the whole fanfare in the movie that i was impressed with but the intensity of the lead in the movie. Its also a pleasant surprise to watch an actor like Rakinikanth take a side step and let someone else take the limelight..though he definitely makes his presence felt in the movie. I think after Thalapathy, Rajinikanth's acting skills are used to quite an extent here. A lot of his dialogues in the movie are definitely his own answers to questions that millions are waiting for him to answer. The intellectual in him definitely shows up in this movie.
The remaining actors(leads) manage to keep their stride as well and have the audience engrossed in just the story for once. Though the movie comes with the usual masala entities without which the Indian population would feel deprived, the story reaches a point where one feels hopelessly helpless forgetting that its another movie and that you are in a Theatre watching it. People even stopped eating their popcorn to pay attention to what was happening.
Pasupathy, the guy who played the lead has always been seen as "the" villain. Seeing him play a down to earth, emotional, loving and caring man with a doting wife and three children gives an idea about the work involved in getting into the skin of the character.
The last 15 minutes of the movie are absolutely a delight to a person who thoroughly enjoys Indian movies. I for one was crying and felt a little stupid immediately, but I turned around and did see many more wiping tears off their eyes and felt comforted that I wasn't the only one.(then i resumed my crying)..
The movie also gives a sense of the fact that it is so difficult to find a true and good friend who can do anything for you without expecting anything in return. In such a fast paced world where "Happy Hour Groups" define friends for most part, it makes you stop and think .. "who is my friend?" , "Do I have such a friend?" , "can i name even one such a friend?". I am back home and I am still thinking of an answer to that question. This however does not mean that I am not thankful for all the lovely friends that I have and I am glad that they are my friends.
I have a lot of friends that I remember everyday but are there friends who think of me at least from time to time and say "She is a true friend". I may never really know the answer to that but sincerely hope that I have made a difference in someone's life.
The first statement in my post is an extension of " Maata Pita Guru Deivam ". The phrase "Nalla Nanban" which means "Good Friend" really makes me think.. how did the person who composed the original miss the "Good Friend" bit .. different people who are with us in different phases of our lives lending more meaning to it.
Cheers to all my friends .. and to many more that I will hopefully make. [ I am ready to go to bed .. gnite world]
