Revenge of the flu shot

Apr 13, 2007 15:37

Plenty of people on my friends list, such as kadath and neiseluv have been coming down with really nasty strains of the flu lately. This, coupled with the fact that I cannot afford to get sick between now and Notacon, prompted me to seek out one of the few remaining flu shots yesterday afternoon. $7 and a trip to the Oakland County Public Health Dept. I'm vaccinated.

On the way home, my brother calls me, wanting to go out to eat and hang out, so I swing by his place and we head to Noble Fish in Clawson for some sushi. Then we head back to his place to catch up. The whole evening I'm nodding off.

Then I head home, take a phone call and hang out on IRC, where I'm falling asleep at the keyboard. I go to bed and sleep 12-13 hours straight and now wake up with that whole-body general malaise that only the flu can hit you with. The flu-shot literature always warns of "mild symptoms may affect you after the shot" and now I know what it means by that.

The nurse said that the shot will stimulate my immune system generally for a few weeks afterward, so the upside is that all of my antibodies and white bloods cells will have been through Special Ops training by the time Notacon rolls around and I seriously abuse myself by staying up way too late for days straight, and partying.
