Friday:
I headed north to Arts, Beats & Eats for the Detroit Techno militia show with
neiseluv and her friend Cat. It was a perfect evening for driving with the top down, so we did. As a result of my flash looking car, we wound up scoring a great parking space on the front lawn of the Pontiac First United Methodist Church, for only $7. Then we threaded our way through the bowels of the Phoenix Plaza Amphitheater (which reallyy could be used as a set for the Matrix or a Bourne movie) to the festival stage where the Detroit Techno Militia was setting up.
DJ Psycho lead off with a set that rocked the blocks, and tore up the turntables. Since he went on early, I think he wound up spinning for about an hour and a half, and I danced frenetically the whole time. It was that good. The last time I can recall hearing a set that made me want to move like that was Detroit Tastefest a couple years ago when Liz Copeland and DJ Heartthrob mixed it up. DTM did make one mistake though, they put Psycho on first; he's a tough, nearly impossible act to follow. As a result tlinder's set seemed sedate by comparison, so i went wandering around the festival for a bit. When I got back, Cat wasn't feeling well, so we headed home.
Saturday:
Kirk and I headed out early for breakfast at Apovini, and then to Island Lake Shooting range in his rented Dodge Charger (which would be too cool, except for that annoying vibration when it hits 80 MPH.) I achieved a personal best on the trap range, scoring over 20 hits on two consecutive lines of trap. My scores for the day were 20/25 and 21/25. Not at all a bad way to start the day!
That evening I had been planning on attending the Detroit Techno Militia/Bang Tech 12 show at the Corktown Tavern, but at the last minute, my friends Brad and Laura invited me out to Dragonmead, which I had never been to before. They have amazing beer there! Brad recommended a half-pint of the bourbon cask aged Under the Kilt Scottish Ale, which was excellent. I then moved on to a sampler, which included an English Porter, an IPA, A Belgian Trippel, an Imperial Russian Stout and some hot pepper flavored lager. Of all of them, I liked the peppered beer the least, mainly because the amount of capsaicin it seemed to contain was weak compared to the Habanero I'm used to. I recall the Trippel, the IPA and the Imperial Russian Stout all being quite good.
Sunday:
Was the day I spent with my contacts out of my eyes, so I mainly just read, relaxed and chilled out.
Monday Kirk and I got up bright and early to visit our parents for Labor Day. We arrived in time for Mom to insist upon making us pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausages for breakfast. I spent most of the day working on fixing some problems with my Dad's computer, while Kirk handled the cookout portion of the day. In the evening, we all watched the extended version of Lord of the Rings: the Two Towers (my parents are rapidly becoming Lord of the Rings fans, which amuses me greatly.)
