Last Tuesday, after working the entire weekend late at night, I decided I needed a day off with friends. I went out for sushi with Ech0, Darryl, Aiac, and Ech0's brother Ryan--on leave from the 101st Airborne in Iraq. It was cool, the food and conversation were good, Ryan treated us to some 101st Airborne style driving in his Mom's big black Buick. I've never taken one of the authorized vehicle turnarounds on the freeway until then. I don't plan on doing it again, but it was fun, especially as I was in the passenger seat.
When we got back to Ech0's house, Aiac needed to go to a business meeting but he had left his keys inside the house. Unfortunately, so had Ech0. We engaged in an exhaustive search of the outside of the house, ultimately finding the window to the front den unlocked. Others boosted Ryan through the window to unlock the door, while I was designated "perimeter security" (feel free to guess why.)
Eventually, Ryan had to leave to work out, and the rest of us hung out at Ech0's "bunker" playing Xbox 360 and watching a bootleg copy of "Charlie Wilson's War" later on, we took a hike on Belle Isle to see the ruins of the old zoo there (I'm old enough to remember when it was open!) Unfortunately, we couldn't explore them as they were surrounded by two 10 foot tall cyclone fences topped with barbed wire and set 10 feet apart. The onlyu other fences like that I have seen were the ones intended to be dog runs in the inter-Wall-Zone in East Berlin. It was kinda freaky to see that level of security in the middle of a Detroit Park.
Afterwards, I drove home and slept for a blissful 12 straight hours.
