I just spend another late night working on the network at the customer site. As usual totally stupid shit slowed me down to a crawl. This place lacks any clue regarding IT whatsoever. They wanted me t rack in a couple of Ethernet switches, but they lacked the mounting hardware for the switches. OK, call around and drive around until I found some (NateCo, as always, had exactly what I needed, in stock and ready for pick up.) Then I had to wait until some crucial business got dune on the network before I could cut over to the new switches.
Terminating the RJ-61 connectors for the phone lines went the easiest and quickest. However, then I found out that the new module for their backplane-based key system wasn't compatible with the backplane that they had. Oh well, I informed everyone that I couldn't go further and then called it a night. The office is supposed to be live tomorrow, but without the expansion to their phone network, three offices will not have voice service. Oh well, I did all that I could to make it happen.
After leaving the work site, I headed to the Ram's Horn on Dequindre for the worst service in recent memory. I had to wait at least 15-20 minutes for them to take my drink order, then wait some more to order. Then my food took far too long to arrive; at least it was fresh and hot when it did arrive. Then one of the waitstaff, while asking me if I wanted a refill, told me that after the first refill they aren't free. WTF? In the end, I paid cash (had to wait at the cash register too.) and left about a 10% tip. For an all-night restaurant that was perhaps a quarter to a third full, this sort of service is unacceptable. I'm never going back to that restaurant again.
