That would depend on what you mean by "spilling their guts".
If it's that you're getting a bunch of posts in a row, then it's either that there was a problem somewhere that was fixed causing it to get a bunch of posts at once, or the person/news source/whatever is just being extra posty.
If you mean giving the full information instead of just a header, that's set by the creator when the RSS is built. LJ doesn't really make it possible to modify what comes out of the feed. I was involved in an argument a couple years ago about full entry RSS vs headline RSS for a blog which leads me to thinking that the only good solution is having two rss feeds...
My experience suggests that LJ's RSS handling is irretrievably broken. To that end, I'm planning on using a "real" RSS reader to read LJ rather than using LJ to read RSS (as soon as I get a few free moments to transfer the new site off the dev server and into production).

Create a group called "Default View"
Copy everything except for the offensive feeds into this group.
Save
This doesn't fix what's actually wrong with either the feed or LJ's aggregator, but it at least keeps the spooge off you main flist.
In addition to the above, I also created a few groups specifically for the RSS feeds that I migrated out of the main view
