That was the trouble with time passing, sometimes Fay had little doubts as to whether he could tell when Yuui was being truthful or not. It was obvious that his brother tend to avoid the truth but, at least in his head he was saying this, surely the other wouldn’t tell him a straight lie, right? That probably didn’t matter right now though; Fay would bet an awful lot on that Yuui was being truthful about not remembering when he’d first had ice cream.

And then another ‘thing’ came up with the younger twin had no clue about, “Strawberry?” It was one thing to miss out on things from his own home due to his early leave; somehow he just knew that this was a matter of missing out on something from somewhere else. Places which Yuui had gotten a chance to see once he was free, Fay was honestly happy about how his brother had been able to do things like that but…well, he also felt slightly awkward because he simply couldn’t join in a lot of things.

Still, maybe it was for the best that he didn’t know a lot of things, at least it meant that they could have a conversation without it going to areas which Yuui clearly didn’t want to talk about.

"Oh! Um-" Yuui's cheeks flushed, forgetting that was a new world thing too. How had he forgotten such things? Had he forgotten home so fast? Of course...that had been the goal, hadn't it? It didn't feel so good now that he'd achieved it.

"It's a fruit. Red and sweet. And in ice cream it makes it a very bright pink, which is very exciting. I like them in deserts." He looked thoughtful for a minute, wondering what else there was he was excited to share with Fay.

"Fay?" he asked abruptly, still smiling, though it softened somewhat. "What do you remember of home...before the tower?" It was so so long ago, Yuui felt hard pressed to remember more then fragments.

Fay truly did try to imagine the ‘strawberry’, although he had great deal of trouble with that. Did they have anything like that back home, back when they actually lived in the ‘home’ instead of in isolation? He couldn’t remember this far down the line. Maybe it was just harder to imagine knowing that it made ice cream, which he couldn’t imagine for a start, turn pink. Was it round? Did it have holes in it? Maybe it was just a small circle which didn’t look like anything special at all?

He was brought out of that pondering by Yuui’s sudden voice, looking up automatically at the sound of his name. He couldn’t control the very slight tilt which followed, soon turning into a very simple stare out with the floor. What could he remember from before the tower? Now that really was something he had to struggle to remember, he’d been in that tower for so long…

“Snow. The big rooms. A lot of people walking around.” It was easier said than done to recall their ‘home’, things he could picture were things we couldn’t put into words. Or simply didn’t want to when it came to their parents and…well, a lot of people from that time. “…Why?”

Yuui nodded thoughtfully, picturing these things in his mind, "I was afraid I'd forgotten it all." He slowed in his walking, looking to his brother with a more serious expression.

"Fay, you can ask me whatever you like you know. I'll try my best to tell you everything. I've spent all my life trying to get you back, I don't want to close myself off from you."

Fay didn’t manage to catch himself before muttering very thoughtfully, “Has it been that long?” In his head he’d corrected himself, saying that he couldn’t very well remember after all that time in the tower so why should he have expected his brother to recall it better after a longer amount of time? Of course this was a time when the thing that didn’t need to be said had been let out, and the follow up which should have been said simply wasn’t.

The younger twin looked over the older very slightly before making a very quiet sound of understanding. Even though Yuui had just given him permission to ask things, it didn’t feel right to ask something which he might not want to answer. Brother or no brother, maybe there were some things that didn’t need to be told. “You don’t need to if you don’t want to.”

"Mm, I guess it has. I spent a long time pretending." He smiled, even as he said this, rubbing at the back of his neck.

He shook his head at Fay, smiling a more honest smile. "I want to. We're the same you and me, we're supposed to share everything."

Despite it taking a few moments for Fay to realise what Yuui was first answer to, he nodded very slightly. There were no real doubts in his mind from that, appearances were deceiving but this was one of those things which were simply known to be true. That and, why would Yuui actually lie about his age when there was nothing to hide in it.

A small moment of silence as Fay tried to take that in and accept it. He wanted his brother to share things but at the same time, after so many years, did he need to know everything? It couldn’t hurt to test the waters could it? Turning his attention back to his brother, Fay decided to ask the one question which had been bugging the back of his mind for a while now, “What happened to your eye?”

"Hmm." A hard place to start, but perhaps one of the more obvious questions he would provoke after all this time. He struggled for a moment with how to explain it. "...Our magic is held in the colour of our eyes. A friend of mine...he lost something very important, and without it, he wasn't himself, and so he took my eye so that he could use my magic," he said, speaking calmly, and tailoring out how the clone had eaten the eye, and tried to take the other as well...or how it was he was even alive. Despite all they'd seen, Fay still had some innocence, and Yuui didn't want to shatter any hope he had of a good world.

Now that left Fay at a loss for words, there was just something a little ‘wrong’ about someone taking an eye from someone else, regardless of the reason. This was really one of those times where it was probably best to purposely not ask anymore, rather than avoid the questioning in case it made the other uncomfortable.

In truth he was probably more unsettled by the fact that Yuui could speak so easily about it, had he seen people give up their eyes often and now wasn’t bothered by it? Had it happened before? Fay shook his head a little to avoid thinking the worst, settling on a simple ‘ah’ sound of understanding.

"...He's not a bad person...not really," he continued, "I think he'll remember how hard he worked for his heart..." None of this would make any sense to Fay, and he seemed to realize that with a start, giving a small laugh. "Mm...things have been very complicated. But I'm fine now. My friend Kurogane got me fixed and it doesn't hurt."

Fay simply nodded once more; he really didn’t understand a lot of it. And in truth he wasn’t really going to ask about it. So long as his brother was okay, that was all that really mattered. That said, he was becoming used to that idea that he’d probably always feel a little awkward around his brother now, if only for the fact that Yuui would talk of friends he didn’t know. Maybe it was going to be harder to share things after all this time than how his brother had made it seem, telling everything wasn’t really the same as sharing those things after all.

“It’s good that you’re okay now.” A small smile as he looked up, not quite sure of what else he could really say now, probably best to stay a little neutral. He was interested just…not sure of how to join in with a conversation about things and people he didn’t know, and might never know for all anyone could guess with this place. “You must have really good friends.”

"...Yes, I suppose I do..." he answered after a moment, giving a bit of a surprised smile. That faded as he realized the likely hood if him ever seeing them again was slim to none.

"I have another friend...back home. You would have liked him. He took care of me." He smiled at his brother, face a bit paler then usual. "We should train, you and I. After ice cream."

The younger twin easily noticed that smile show up and fade, maybe talking about his friend’s wasn’t the best idea. At least, not right now when there was a chance they could be separated for a long time, if not completely now. In Fay’s mind he could see it being harder for his brother than anyone else, having someone and then no one for a long amount of time and now…well, he’d had people and now they weren’t around. No matter what Yuui said, it didn’t change the fact that Fay couldn’t make up for being several people, especially when he was so out of touch being himself.

And then soon enough that smile was back when his brother mentioned his friend from home, Fay assumed it was a person from when he’d gotten out of that place. Still, it worried him slightly that, even though there was a smile, Yuui still looked a little ‘wrong’. Like something wasn’t quite right about talking of whoever had taken the older twin in after the neglect. There wasn’t much time to think on that though when the prospect of training came up.

A short but determined nod, “I’d like that.”

"Good," Yuui said with a grin, "It's important for you to learn. That way you can look after yourself, even if I'm not around...I haven't used magic in a while, it will be fun to teach someone," he said with a thoughtful look, then reached out to ruffle Fay's hair.

"So to get the ice cream we have to sneak into the city. That means if anything bad happens or we get separated you hide, and when it seems safe you try and get back to this side of the river, okay?"

Fay smiled very calmly up at that, even while having his hair ruffled, “I’m sure you’ll be a good teacher.” He’d been looking strangely forward to learning from his brother, even though he was very aware that their magic had been the cause of most of their suffering. It would be making something negative into a positive, and if it would help him look after himself a little then perhaps Yuui wouldn’t need to worry quite so much.

And then there was something to start his own worrying, Fay could sort of remember hearing that someone had gone over and been caught. If Yuui was sure though… “Okay. If something happens then I’ll try to get back.”

Yuui nodded with a smile. "Good. And most people at the apartment should be able to help you. Not the clown man though, stay away from him. But we'll be fine, so there's no need to worry."

The approached the river and Yuui paused, wondering how best to cross with Fay in tow.
