I'll admit it. I've been a closet tech lover for years. I have this dichotomy of personality- the Luddite in me yearns for a cabin, kerosene lamps, and a productive garden. A peaceful place, where I can await the Rapture in peace. Then there's my sci fi fan inside, who had thrilled to watch the technological changes of the last twenty years, and still holds out hope for retiring to a space colony. The part of me that squealed with glee upon first using the NASA app. Oh, how far we've come!
I've spent years wanting an iPhone. Out of all the technology I yearned for, living in the mountains, tending my garden, a smart phone was my fiercest desire. I started my cell life with a Nokia, went on to own four progressively better flip phones as budget allowed. Never could afford the high end stuff, tho. I made do. This Christmas, a co-worker gave me an iPhone 3 she had in her kitchen junk drawer. I promptly drove to the nearest AT&T store and lit that bad boy up. I spent the next two weeks in heaven. Kindle app? Finally! iTunes on my phone? Excellent! Games, games, games? Yeah, baby, yeah.
I got my tax return last week. Of course I paid on some bills, put money aside, bought some new bras. But my splurge, my "I can't believe I'm doing this" purchase, was an iPhone 4S. I've had people say I should've waited for the 5. I don't care. I'd waited long enough. I haven't even begun to tap this phone's possibility yet, I know. I am, however, an eager learner.
