*sigh* Always feel sorry for the black kitties... I've read that black dogs and cats tend to linger in shelters... Another reason for this is because their faces can be less distinct and people don't connect with them as easily. This shelter went on a campaign to draw attention to them with brightly colored collars or bows--it worked. :-)
The other night, my Mom and I saw this little stray kitten in the grocery store parking lot. He was too wild to catch but we managed to give him some kitty food we bought. Talking with the people who worked around there--found out that people drop them off. And there are a lot of cats left near restaurants down here. (There was a Sonic very close by that the kitty was getting food from.) I've never seen as many homeless cats as I have down here...it's very saddening. And it makes me mad that people don't take care of them--spay, neuter or let them inside. Poor kitties!
We have 5 cats, three of which were shelter or rescue cats. So, I guess you could say we do our part. lol
It's a really shame about what happens to abandoned kittens... I always feel that, if "pets" are created by us humans, then we, have the FULL responsibilties about them. If the people cannot take care of the new kitties, then they should have spayed/neutered the parent cat(s). They probably think that cost too much...well, it does, but nothing is more valued than life.
Don't mean to preach like that, but yes, I think it's awesome that you have rescued cats. It's always a great feeling to know that there are people that reach out too.
P.S. Thanks for letting me know about black cats and dogs. We re trying to make the black cats the "in" things at our shelter (lol). Well, black color is always stylish, and ebony cats, like Bombays, are one of the most affectionate breeds...that's what we say anyways.
