We arrived at Deadwood after something like 1 1/2 hours of driving westward from Badlands National Park.
We departed from flat road and entered mountaneous winding road...which almost got me sick (<--.....).
And there it was--a small yet lively rural town located in the valley (I think people can walk from one end of the town to the other without much difficulty, but that's just my opinion).
People say that it was a mining town established by outlaws who came into west in hopes of hitting gold somehow. Its 'wild'atomosphere had faded over the years, as the people became more civil and everything (and on top of that, town of deadwood once came close to becoming 'ghost town'), but maybe NOT completely...for there were actors disgusing themselves as figures of wild west walking down the historical street among the crowds of tourists, and everywhere you look, there were casinos, casinos, and more casinos.
Practically almost all the hotels had casino installed within their lobby, and you will always find senior citizens glues to their seat, staring intensively at their slot machine screens. There is also a casiono ran by Kevin Costner and his older brother. If you go there, you may find costumes and props used in the movie, "Dance with Wolves" (<--part of the movie was shot in Badlands, by the way.)
Oh yeah, and also... Have you heard of "Calamity Jane" or "Wild Bill Hickok"? Well, their graves are there.
Anyways, we stayed in the town of deadwood for 2 nights, so that my parents could participate in a marathon that took place on the mountain trail near the town. I didn't run of course (I'm out of shape for that), but i waited for them at the goal which was inside of the town. My mom came in 3 hours 19 mins as a 2nd place woman, while dad finished the race in 4 hours 6 mins. It was their first time to run on the trail where the first 13 miles=all UP-HILL (man...), but they're so happy that they ran it. Apparently, the course was really beautiful.
That's it for Deadwood. Oh, and NO, i did not go gambling. lol.
I might write more (again) later.... but now, i must go help my mom with tutoring some japanese kids.
