Yes i'm still trying to make this work in my head.
The only thing that makes sense is that Edgeworth died. Really that's the only thing. Possibly that PxE happened and they had a really, really terrible worst breakup ever and now hate each other (But Capcom would never). Maya still doesn't make sense though. Clearly she's still alive. I want to declare this not canon in my mind but it is a whole game and possibly a second game where they better explain some things.
aghhh this is like a zillion times worse than the HP epilogue.
Also all of the explanations would suck if they happened. They just decided to have the least satisfying ending to the story.
Of course this would all have been wonderful if they had only left Phoenix out of the game. Then it would have all made sense. But I suppose I can attempt to fix this large gap in the storyline by reading piles of fanfiction on what happened. But I kind of just want to ignore the whole thing and pretend it was a weird non canon spinoff story.

Yeah the Japanese fan names were appropriate for this. Naruhodo -> Darehodo
Perhaps I can settle for the crackier explanation that it is actually Furio Tigre in a better disguise. The poker thing would make more sense then too.
