My darling YOU! - Bad Times Are On
Swedish - indie/twee pop
Download

Some of us will wake up behind bars

I used to not be (that much of) a fan of My darling YOU!, but then one day I sat down and really listened to their music.. I was amazed. If you don't like Bad Times Are On the first time around, seriously play it a couple of more times and then you'll be dancing and singing like a drunkard.

176BIZ - Akame
Japanese - visual indies (oshare-kei)
Download

176BIZ never disappoints me for some reason, in the same way I like all of Lolita23q's music. Akame kicks ass.

Between the Trees - The Fort
American - indie/alt/pop
Download | Lyrics

We think we need so many useless things

Five-member band from Florida. This song is fantastic and it progresses really well.. it's about having to take a step back in your life in order to reevaluate it and see the meaning in everything. I like the verse when he's talking about the forest. Sometimes you can discover the most important things in people or places that you'd normally never think of looking into.

--

byTachikiritai (by断ち切り隊) - Koi no Gekidasa ECSTASY
Japanese - seiyuu
Download

How I adore PoT music...♥ Anyone who's into seiyuu music adores Prince of Tennis just because it has so many talented singers. You can preview this song on Youtube. It's the OP theme for Tenisu no Oujisama: Zenkoku Taikai-hen Semifinal OVA.

Falling Up - Hotel Aquarium
American - "pash rock"/synth
Download | Lyrics

Is this another complication I face?

If I had to make a Top 2007 albums compilation, Falling Up's new album, Captiva would certainly make it. You could listen to it on loop for 5 hours and never get bored. I know because I've tried it. Hotel Aquarium is the easy favorite, although I also highly recommend Good Morning Plantarium for the synth... well the whole album is pretty ace.

--

Steady & Co. - 風まかせ
Japanese - urban/jazzy hip-hop
Download

You probably noticed I don't listen to hip-hop a lot! This is the first time I've featured it on a rotation. At least now you know I know some more bands other than RIP SLYME, lol

--

bôa - Duvet
British - indie/alternative
Download | Lyrics

A shame that I can read your mind

Amazing how many people confuse BoA and bôa. A lot of lyrics/info sites don't even disambiguate them. Like most, I got into bôa because of Serial Experiments Lain. I even bought two of their albums (a long time ago) because of it. Their lyrics are marvelously well thought out.

--

Powerspace - Right On, Right Now
American - powerpop
Download | Lyrics

The clouds roll in, the wind at my neck
But every day's a thunderstorm

Four-member band from Illinois. It's amusing how upbeat & happy-sounding this song is after you read the lyrics find out what it's really all about. The song is busy (in a catchy way) so you might not be able to tell the first time around.

--

FLEET
Japanese - indie/ambient/chillout
Download: Brand new reason | Soleil

It's quite rare to have heard of FLEET and not have watched Innocent Venus. Sato Junichi's voice is wonderfully relaxing to listen to because it's so breathy and light. They've only released a single and minialbum so far (which I am purchasing!)

--

City Sleeps - Not An Angel
American - indie/progressive emo
Download | Lyrics

My candle shines without a doubt
but the wind in your wings blows them out

Featured in the Resident Evil: Extinction (2007) soundtrack. They're a pretty great band especially if you're looking for something a little different from the usual emo/indie stuff. Of course I also recommend PowerSpace if that's the case, but City Sleeps is less on the upbeat-pop and more focused on vocals. I love when he says "my darling" lol

--

NIRGILIS - Snow Kiss
Japanese - electronica/alt/pop
Download | Lyrics

The first ED theme for D.gray-man. This band has had a lot of history involving member changes (I think they just had another member leave last month) but their sound is consistently good. Very synthy, electronic pop.

--

Voicst - Whatever You Want From Life
Dutch - indie/powerpop
Download | Lyrics

I've got a Glock in my pocket
and it's pointing at you

I'm excited because I've been to Amsterdam! And that is where this band is from. If you need a song to boost up your day, you better blast your Voicst music. Quirky, upbeat, and catchy. I'm always put into a good mood afterwards.

--

Fish Leong / Jasmine Leong (梁靜茹) - Middle
Malaysian - Mandarin - jazzy/pop/ballad
Download | Lyrics

Middle is the OP theme for 愛情合約 / Love Contract, which was my first Asian dorama. After that I became a big fan of Jasmine Leong, and of Chinese pop in general. Watch the MV.

--

Kai Natsu (甲斐名都)
Japanese - easy listening/pop
Download: Natsu Arashi no Yoru | Ao No Muko Ni Sono Koi Wo Nagete Shimao

From her first and only album, ナミダの成分 / Namida no Seibun which was released last August. She only went major around last year. Her voice is very melodic and pretty.. some similar artists would probably be 石垣優 / Ishigaki Yuu or 絢香 / ayaka.

--

The French Kicks - Wrong Side
American - indie/garage/alternative
Download | Lyrics

Summer's so fine, I don't need you at all

"Wow, no one really listens to this band. Kind of surprising. They're excellent." -Slaky311

Five-member post-punk band from Brooklyn, New York. They have oddly fascinating lyrics in their songs (take So Many Cakes for example) and coupled with transfixing melodies, they're more than worth a listen.

--

Claire Kuo (郭静) - Ma Qiao
Taiwanese - Mandarin - alternative/vocalist
Download

From her 2007 debut album, 我不想忘記你 / I do not want to forget you. I'm impressed with Claire's style.. it's reminiscent of some other female Cpop singers (like Angela Chang perhaps), but also unique in its own way. Plus she looks a lot like Ariel Lin. It was hard to pick a favorite from the album but I think I enjoy Ma Qiao the most. I hope you like it a lot, too.

--

Suitei Shoujo (推定少女) - Jouhou
Japanese - alternative/pop
Download | Lyrics

This duo unfortunately disbanded last year. Jouhou is the OP for E's Otherwise. You can preview it on Youtube.

--

Kazoku (華族) - Ukigumo
Japanese - visual indies (oshare-kei)
Download

So far in my life, I have only cried for two band break-ups, and that was for Soroban and Kazoku. Kazoku is the reason why a lot of people were eagerly waiting for THE KIDDIE to debut. Ukigumo is magnificent *__*'V The chorus shows you how well Yusa can sing.

--

God or Julie - Automatic
American - indie/metal/alternative
Download

"Emotive, powerful, amazing riffs" -MattKCracknell
Hmm yeah running out of interesting things to say. No lie, their riffs are great.

--

Hard-Fi - Hard to Beat
British - indie/britpop/post-punk
Download | Lyrics

You've got.. something I like

Four-member britpop band from Staines, England. I think Hard to Beat is their best song because all you want to do is just dance to it, that's how great it is. Plus the vocalist (Richard John Archer) is disturbingly attractive.

--

Maruru (マルル) - Rishiakua
Japanese - visual indies (oshare-kei)
Download

I've been in an oshare-kei mood lately, as you may have noticed. But wait, I am always only listening to oshare-kei.. =_=

--

Lovedrug - Spiders
American - indie/melodic
Download | Lyrics

We're hanging by a thread
connected to the other end of this
twisted frequency I've spun

Four-member band from Ohio. This song is the kind you can fall asleep to since it puts you at incredible ease. I like how it starts out very quietly and then it bursts into a stronger melody for the third verse. And the metaphor! It's beautiful to think about.
