Stolen from warsop

1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
Got married LEGALLY! :)  Okay so that was technically 2013... Otherwise, I spent a month traveling across the country for interviews. Saw Montreal. Got a job at ISU. Started my own research network and am now working with other profs at other major universities.

2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I think my main goal was to focus on my health. To be fair, I did start this process starting in September but with all the travel, interviews, etc, it was really difficult. My goal this year is the same. However, I have a much better system in place. I have a date with a personal trainer 1x a week set up starting next week, and Michaela and I joined a 4-person fitness group that's 2x a week. I think my biggest challege is going to making changes to what I eat. I'm not sure how to do that, but I'm working on it. Oh, that other thing is that ISU has a recreation center right next to my office so I plan to continue this trend when we move.

3. Did someone close to you give birth?
CASEY/JESS!  I became an Aunt this year! Kate and I are now "the Disney Aunts".

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, but Kate did lose several distant family members.

5. What countries did you visit?
Canada. Yes, I'm seriously including that. Esp. since it was Montreal... which is defintely 'other country like'

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
less fat. I know that's a bit crude. But I really want to end the year at least 40lbs lighter. That will make it so I started and ended my PhD program the same weight.

7. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
New Years Eve 2012/New Years Day 2013. Married.  Also, the month of October/November during the whole job interview process and signing a contract with ISU

8. What was your biggest achievement(s) of the year?
Getting a job!

9. What was your biggest failure(s)?
Not focusing on my health/weight enough.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really. Overall it was a fairly healthy year.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
The Element (Honda). It's been a great lilttle car.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Casey, for being a great dad. Nadyne for getting a promotion at work. Kate for surviving a hellish job (and not killing anyone) and also passing her licensure exam with a score way above the standard deviation. Mom - just because she's awesome. And I think the people of WA, MD and Maine are pretty awsome for legalizing gay marriage.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Republicans. Bigots. Stupid people.

14. Where did most of your money go?
A lot more was spent of travel this year. Mostly to conferences but also during the interview process (even though a lot was reimbursed)

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Job. Marriage.

16. What songs will always remind you of 2012?

Bones, Law and Order SVU, Glee, the New Normal and anything with Chef Ramsey

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No

26. What was the best book you read?
Divergent and Insurgent.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

32.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not really... it was pretty fulfilling

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Getting better. I've been wearing more scarves, camis and cover shirts.

Kate. Mom.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Mom. and friends in MI and CA

38. Who was the best new person you met?
I've been hanging out with Stoney a lot more. And Nathan is still awsome.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012:
I'm actually pretty good at what I do. I will always remember Naomi Greenburg at Baruch College saying that I was really quite established for where I was ini my program. And she really meant it. They saw a lot of potential in me, and also trusted that it could be realized.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
