Another Dragon Tattoo Drabble!

And I have a 3rd one planned!

Nicodème sprawled under a tree, feet and legs dangling in the river, wishing the heat would go just go away. One of the downsides to having a water drake bound to him was his complete inability to function in the heat of summer without being neck deep in a lake.

"Hot..." Rémy whined through his voice. He groaned his agreement and let himself slide more into the water. At this rate, he didn't care if he wound up as wrinkly as a prune. At least then he might have some brain power.

The snap of a twig was the only warning he got before he was half scooped, half shoved, over the edge into the water, lean arms wrapped around him. He squeaked, eyes flying open as he tried to flail his way free. Luckily the bottom was well within reach, giving him plenty of leverage. He stopped struggling when his assailant kissed him, quite thoroughly, and narrowed the list of suspects down to one.

"Hello!" came the too chipper greeting.

"Thibault? How can you function in this bloody heat?" Nicodème asked.

Thibault looked smug. "Mirror magic. I found a spell that lets me reflect most of it. Besides, I grew up near a desert."

Nicodème pouted. "I hate you..." He drooped, and felt Rémy wriggle off of his arm and slid out under the water.

"I was going to share, Nico," Thibault informed him. "That's one reason I came to find you. Why are you all the way out here? The river runs by the school. Wouldn't it be easier to collapse in a heap there? Why come all the way out to this little hidden valley?"

"Because the school has people who would rather see me strung up over a fire," Nicodème replied, his voice completely matter of fact. After all, he'd been at the school for several years; he knew what his peers thought of him.

Thibault opened his mouth to protest when suddenly he leapt a meter to the side with a startled yelp. "There are fish here! And one just bit my ankle!"

Nicodème just looked at him like he was nuts. He felt Rémy's glee, but assumed that it was because she was in the water. "It's a river. Of course there are fish. And they like mages."

Thibault pointed down into the water. "That's no fish!" he ammended.

Nicodème followed his gaze, then looked at Thibault and raised an eyebrow. Now he knew what she was up to. "No, no, she's definitely not a fish. That'sRémy."

The tiny sea dragon raised her head above the water, and used her wings to move over to Thibault. She gave him an expectant look.

Thibault held a few fingers out to her. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you in the scales, Rémy. Been getting Nico into trouble, lately?"

She chirped her response and rubbed up against his fingers, causing Nicodème to groan. It was just his luck that his dragon was going to team up with his boyfriend. Two against one pretty much ensured he was going to have to be social whether he wanted to or not.
