If you figure out how to do this, pass it along. I have wider shoulders so trouble with sleeves/collars is pretty standard for me :/ I just... find ones that fit better.
you can add more material onto the sleeves to make them not cap. if you need to widen the opening, cut the sleeve off completely and add a new one to the bigger hole.
as for the neckline, except cutting it i have no idea. i like the idea of cutting off the front and tacking it onto another shirt. a friend got me the book Generation T 108 ways to transform a tshirt from Michael's. it's pretty awesome.
I've seen books like that, they are great! Unfortunately most crafty fashion books are intended for people with a female aesthetic. I wanted to tranny-fy this shirt by taking it from female to male... or at least just leave it androgynous.
I like the idea of adding more material to the sleeves & cutting off the cap ones. Then i could use a different color fabric for the sleeves, but how to sew a sleeve? I know from unsuccessfully trying to shorten my own sleeves that just cutting a straight line across isn't right...
I might still try cutting off the front & tacking it on. I don't mind if it looks DIY; that will even further the idea of the logo. :)
this book has patterns that can be androgynous. coming from a sewer, sleeves are a pain and i avoid them. to reattach a sleeve you want to cut up the side. sew the sleeve on first. then sew a single seam all the way up the side and bottom of the sleeve. it's way easier than just cutting off the sleeve and trying ot sew a circle sleeve onto a circle arm hole. PAIN.
I second Generation T. It's on my nightstand right now because it's time for SUMMER SHIRTS.
I'd say get the shirt as big as you can, cut the sleeves off, then sew sleeves from a proportional plain tee on for shoulder coverage. You could also widen it by sewing in two-inch stripes of same plain tee on the sides. I know how Jess likes to be super-coordinated and all.
see, the only thing that i can think to do is just cut off the sleeves and turn the whole thing into a wifebeater/tanktop.
the design is too high up on the shirt (if you don't want to cut into it) to do much else with is from what i can see.
Please don't turn a whole shirt into a giant patch. :( I tried that once, back in middle school, with a vintage MTV logo... it was a bittersweet effort... *sigh*
I wish i could go into Old Navy with a bunch of grape juice & covertly stain the backs of a stack of these shirts in various sizes so that i could have a lot of samples to work with.
