so things were coasting along pretty well since my last entry. emily was a bit ill - though that's par for the course - i was internally squeeing over the frankenstein screening getting closer and eve was all excited about school, then the half term holidays and then her visit to grandmas. so like i said, coasting.

then last saturday, emily's kidneys exploded (not literally i hasten to add) and things have been pretty much exhausting ever since. we went to the hospital early saturday morning and after many tests and sticking of needles, she was put on a ward and is likely to be there for another week. she pretty much wants to kill the old lady in the bed across from hers, but other than that, she's doing well. eve was a little upset when she saw her mum for the first time (the only person she's seen in hospital was her nan and she died, so, y'know), but she's gotten over that now. in fact, when i told her yesterday that her mum would be staying in for a bit longer on account of her kidney's, she asked about kidney's and their functions and that cued a half hour of us both mooching around the internet looking at internal organs, checking out their functions and seeing where they're positioned in the body. she even drew two fairly awesome diagrams of the human body, and now she's much more comfortable with mum being in hospital.

seriously, i love that child. y'know how some parents have a blanket answer for kids with the word magic? like, 'mum, how does the light switch work?' 'magic.'; 'mum, why does my leg look like that when i do this?' 'magic.' and so on? well, for eve, the blanket word is science. 'auntie debs, why can you see the clouds on the water?' 'science.'; 'mum, why is my tummy making that noise?' 'science.' - except that when she asks all these questions, we always follow it up with explanations and whatnot. i've never known a kid of her age to be instantly rapt when the word science is heard.

she's fucking awesome.

who with the what now?, benedict omg, emily, seriously?, what are you for exactly?, facepalm, evie, whatever, bff, give me a bubble to hide in, fail, kids are awesome, can't make this shit up, o.0, experiments in awesomeness, experiments in disaster, in the name of science, family
